I filled the box of my truck with snow but doubt I'll be able to get down the side streets. Oh well, stay in and watch football I guess........who am I kidding I was going to do that anyway it's fricking playoffs!!!!! :)

Hate to tell you but i've been "gambling" with winter driving for the past 15 years and guess what, I've won every year. All seasons, all year round in Vancouver and no problems. I haven't hit anything and I get home safely, everynight, even last night. Its like i've been playing roulette and betting on 00 and winning everytime.

How many sets of winter tires should I have gone through in 15 years, how many hundreds of dollars might have I wasted? But then again, maybe you're right, maybe I should go spends hundreds of dollars on snow tires. But as I look outside... I see the snow is already melting, main roads are already clear and I still have hundreds of dollars in my pocket. :smug:

So I guess you won winter of 08/09 too. Unless you're lying!. You do know winter tires perform better in the weather due to the Low temperature conditions and not just because of snow.

There's nothing in Richmond. Even the trace of flurries on the grass is next to none.

08/09 was fine too. It was maybe only a few days where you couldn't actually drive. I think Christmas eve and Christmas day were bad that year. The rest of the winter season was fine. I remember hitting up the mountains for some great skiing that year. On my all seasons of course.

But LiquidTurbo hit the nail on the head. Peace of mind is priceless. If the Fountain Tire commercials and threating news in October of the "worse winter in years" convinces you to buy snow tires, then by all means good for you.

I know snow tires perform better in cold weather than all seasons. But I drive max 60 km/hr on local roads. How much performance do you need when you're driving that slow? :considered:

chilliwack was pretty bad this morning, cars in ditches on HWY1 and approx 6" of snow on the ground.

You will probably go thru the same number of sets of winter/summer tires compared to all season tires. You will use your winters for half a year and your summers for half a year versus using your all season for a WHOLE year, probably producing the same amount of wear. So no you will not waste a single dollar for having proper equipment on your car.

I know you've gone through 15 winters without having winter tires...but have you ever driven on winter tires before? I had the same mentality as you before until I've actually driven in winter tires and found that I had much more control of the vehicle. After all those 4 little rubber patches are the ONLY parts of your car in contact with the road.

^That's quite true actually. Spent ~$300 this year for a set of used steelies and snow tires with decent tread left (more for the rims, since they were dirt cheap for OEM compared to the dealer's prices). It's worth it for that extra grip throughout the winter, and the fact that I don't have to use my all-seasons and good rims through all this crap on the ground. Frankly it won't cost me much extra to run 2 sets of wheels and tires compared to all-seasons year round.

On the other hand, parents have been running all-seasons year round for the past 2 decades with no incident, so it can be done if you're not an idiot. We have fairly mild winters after all. To each their own.

Depends where you live and what kind of car you drive.
