Environment Canada has declared a snowfall warning for Metro Vancouver. Snowfall is expected in the region beginning Thursday evening.

SEE ALSO: Do your part – help clear snow and ice from sidewalks
Updated warning issued at 5:03 p.m.: Up to 15 cm of snow is expected inland and over higher terrain. Lesser amounts of 10 cm is forecasted near the coast.

Original warning issued at 7:31 a.m.:

10 cm of snow accumulation inland and over higher terrain has been forecasted. There will be lesser amounts of approximately 5 cm near water.

A cold air mass has settled over the South Coast this morning in the wake of a weak Arctic front out of the British Columbia Interior. A low-pressure system approaching from the Pacific will spread moisture across the region beginning tonight and into Friday.

With the temperature forecast to hover near zero, the precipitation is expected to start off as snow for the majority of the South Coast.

Furthermore, snow is likely to continue falling through the morning commute on Friday. As the wind picks up later Friday morning, and as temperatures warm up to above freezing, snow should change to rain near the immediate coast.

However, further inland and over higher terrain, snowfall accumulations will probably reach 10 cms or more before tapering off to light rain or drizzle by late Friday afternoon.
Such a tease, I hope we do get 15 or more cm of snow tonight... but that it sticks around longer then til tomorrow afternoon

Snowing pretty good up here in Squamish. My sons didn't want to go to bed, they wanted to be outside all night.

15cm? yeah right... more like [edit]15 inches right now in north burnaby. i know it's supposed to rain afterwards but i still have to shovel :(

320icar 12-20-2013 03:56 AM

I couldn't make it to work. Summer tires killed it. I was okay rolling at 30km but then i got to a light and they just spun. So i nursed it home and i think another co worker is gonna come pick me up later.
