is anyone else procrastinating with putting on their snow tires due to the warm dry weather so far? Still haven't installed mine yet, wonder if good idea to do it during this holiday break.

If one was going to swap to snows, it should've been done before that cold snap we had last month after it snowed. If you don't want to go by the sub-7*C rule of thumb and don't go up the mountains, it's not supposed to get much colder over the next month.

Might be a good time to get it done now. Supposed to be a cold week coming up.

BC coast bracing for cold arctic air | News1130

Quote:

FRASER VALLEY (NEWS1130) – Grab a sweater, some mittens and bundle up, it is about to get really cold. Environment Canada says the BC coast will be hit with a strong ridge of high pressure resulting in cold arctic air starting Sunday morning.
That ridge will spread quickly, dropping temperatures down five to 10 degrees below normal by Monday.
This warning also affects the Fraser Valley.
The freezing conditions are expected to stick around all week with a chance of wet flurries by Friday.

if you have them then put them on, if you don't have them then fug it.

Too lazy like some of you guys to put on snow tires. I'm going to sell my winter setup as I seldom drive in the winter and I drive only on "warmer" days. Not making good use of my winter tires I purchased. Only used for 2 seasons with 4000km (3 years old tires).

wow. mine were on before that last little snowfall the other month we had...

inv4zn 12-27-2014 10:57 PM

^Mine too...

What's the point of even having a separate set of winter tires if you're "too lazy" to put them on when it's cold..?

thumper 12-27-2014 11:15 PM

the common reasoning i'm usually given when asked is that they don't want to wear them out, and only put them on when snow is forecast or a trip to the mountains is planned.

inv4zn 12-27-2014 11:18 PM

To which you should tell them tires deteriorate with time...

Driveability isn't just a function of treadwear.

Semi-related, the Carrera GT that Paul Walker was in when he died apparently had 9 year old tires.

Crazy black ice at higher elevations/bridge decks and extremely foggy in the low areas.

Be safe out there.

Black ice on the S2S and the highway is shut in both directions around Lion's Bay. Slow down, put those snow tires on.
