As homeowners are you guys shoveling "your" area of the sidewalk?

I shovel my part, but today as I was walking down from imperial and canada way, not a single house had "their" sidewalk shoveled.

Yes I shovel my sidewalk. I was under the impression that it's the law. a quick search and I found that it's "required" but doesn't say what the consequences are.

Quote:
Your Role as a Business or Resident

Residents and businesses play an important role during periods of snow and icy weather:

Clear the Way. Businesses are required to remove accumulated snow from sidewalks bordering the property by 10:00 AM on any day in which the premises are open or occupied by the public. Residents are required to remove snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property as soon as possible.
Reduce Hazards. Do not shovel snow from sidewalks or driveways onto the roads as this creates a traffic hazards and interferes with drainage of melting snow.
Help us by clearing snow from storm drains and fire hydrants. This will help drainage of melting snow and will ensure quick access to a hydrant in case of a fire. To locate a storm drain or fire hydrant on your street, see the Burnaby Map. (Navigation note: Storm drain information is found in the map layer: Engineering, Infrastructure, Storm, Catch Basins. Fire hydrants are found under the map layer: Engineering, Water, Water hydrants.)
Be a Good Neighbour. Clear snow and ice from sidewalks can be a difficult task for our senior residents, or those with limited mobility. The City is no longer running its formal Snow Angels volunteer snow-shovelling program and is instead asking residents to take the initiative lend a helping hand to neighbours that may need assistance clearing snow and ice from sidewalks.
https://www.burnaby.ca/City-Services...e-Control.html

EDIT: Maybe i'm getting it mixed up with Vancouver
Quote:
Note: Property owners, occupants, and tenants may be fined for not clearing the sidewalk around their property by the 10:00am deadline.

Home Depot maybe?

I buy some every year. Even if it doesn't snow or freeze. I have enough. BTW, regular salt doesn't work below a certain temperature. It becomes useless.

I have the Alaskan Melt stuff. Buy when they're not in demand, then laugh at others who are caught without. LOL.

Tell you what, lilaznviper......... I'll bring you a bag or two of the Safe-T-Salt if you give me back the mini screwdriver set with the Apple iPhone pentalobes I lent you.

I shovel mine, plus the guy next door. He's a senior who suffered a stroke last year. He still shovels his walkways around his property. He's like 80+ years old. His son was around during the snowfall and he just leaves......... like, W-T-F??????

My son and daughter shovelled his sidewalk, actually, 'cause I had to deal with the mess out back. They were just starting the neighbour's sidewalk when the son left................. I can guarantee you at that age, my kids will come by and shovel the sidewalk. Did something right............nuff said.

If the neighbor is out and I'm not, he shovels in front of my place. If I'm out and and his needs re-doing, I take care of it. It's worked well over the years.

Well, Safeway on Hastings and Kensington has salt. Just arrived. $6.29 a bag. Being unloaded off truck as I type.

Safeway's on the ball. They know demand.

Lordco is basically sold out. As soon as we get it in, 5 minutes later it's sold out. I swear there are people waiting until they see our trucks pull in so they can grab it.

MG1 needs to have a segment on local TV called MG1's price patrol..!! Start it as a business and you can turn your drives to Costco US as company expense

According to this article Lowe's said they are not expecting shipment for 3 weeks!!?

I don't understand why home owners don't store a bag or 2 of salt and store those cheap HD plastic bucket. For you new home owners just buy 2 bags at the end of the season of every season.. you are good to go pretty much every season after.

Any salt should work as an ice melter. The only downside with using table salt is it doesn't really provide the traction like road salt. Pool salt works a lot faster than any ice melting salt I've ever seen and if used with some sand works really well.

2 wheels with traction is better than 4 wheels with no traction.
