Wet and slushy from Burnaby to Vancouver home. No issues with winter tires + rwd. I get scared when someone is going like 30km on a a main road with no cars in front, these people shouldn't even be on the road.....

i'd rather them do that than to drive way too fast and hit me
route from main+2nd home to richmond at 5:30pm was a breeze. roads were basically just wet (main roads). what's the rest of tonight supposed to look like?
Stopped by Nanaimo and 1st to have pho, saw that someone had parked his Focus for awhile and had left his rear window open halfway, all i had in my car was a plastic bag. Kind of was able to cover most of the opening, i hope he doesnt have too much snow inside his car :/
I used to live there and it's a wreck. I love it there but it's not built for snow. Cars are often abandoned on Pinetree Way and there are several steep intersections you have to go through before you reach the top.
Just drove the GF home. Saw a 370z stuck trying to go up boundary south of grandview hwy. Also a bus stopped in middle of road going downhill rupert street and tons of cars stuck trying to go uphill on the other side.
I just took the Mini out for a drive and it's really slippery out. People that don't know how to drive and are on all seasons really have no business driving anywhere.
All seasons will not make it up a hill in the current conditions. If it was dry snow it would have been fine, but because there's a layer of salt on the ground the resulting slushy under layer is super slick.
Just came back from downtown via Kingsway, ppl driving 30 km/h and taking up over both lanes. This was around 8:30pm when there was a good 1-2 cm of snow on the ground before the plows came by. Coming home just now was faster since the pows took a pass through since then.

Went out tonight to do some food shopping, and test out the winter tires. They're on their 3rd winter, and not quite as grabby compared to new, but they still destroy all-seasons, easily.
what a gong show returning back to East Van from Richmond
Cambie via SW Marine Drive closed
Knight Street Bridge NB @ North End closed
Argyle via SW Marine Drive car accident
Victoria via SW Marine Drive closed
Elliot via SW Marine Drive multiple cars stuck
Rupert /Kerr via SW Marine Drive closed
Matheson Crescent congested af but open
Boundary via SW Marine Drive at least 10-15 cars stuck with too many unequipped people trying (lots of people backing down the hill and doing u-turns and driving down the opposite direction when there's people trying to get up????)
I guess I'm a moron for going up that way too but I was equipped and had no problems going up at a steady 40km/h, waited like 15 minutes till I had a clear path though, little poop came out multiple times because of other cars around attempting stuff
and of course my dash cam chooses to not record today
Just drove in from Kerrisdale to New West - still coming down. Highways are mostly quite clear, but the EW Connector is frozen solid so be super careful.
Oak St. SB was a shitshow because there were like 20 buses all pulled over vaguely to the right, I assume they couldn't make it down the hill. They were all trolley buses.
I took the qboro exit, but the line to Alex Fraser was a gong show. I was wondering why, now I know.
White Rock roads don't get plowed, get minimally salted/brined/sanded too. Got home after work, decided to take the car out for a spin on some fresh unmolested powder since the roads were empty cause most seniors sleep at 4pm
I was able to refresh my memory of how boring FWD cars are in the snow. Give it some gas, just torque steers to the right until it very aggressively catches grip (no hopping cause of my torque damper). Gas while turning, same thing, just plows forward until it catches grip then it throws me in whatever direction my steering wheel is pointing towards
Was tempted to do reverse donuts but decided not to cause I'd probably end up hitting a curb or something. And pretty sure my e-brake cable needs tightening cause pulling on it while the car is moving does absolutely nothing at all, rear wheels don't even lockup in the the snow

Are m+s rated tires any good in this kind of snow? I'm fairly newb to driving in the snow (hence my leaving the car at work/at home), so not sure what the difference is between a m+s rated tire and a winter one.

So this happened today... driver immediately lost traction after hitting the brakes. After reviewing the footage, I noticed that the rear wheels were spinning while the front were locked up. Can anyone explain the physics behind this, being that's a FWD car?
