These past 2 weeks has been especially bad up on SFU.
In total, I think there was over 2 and closer to 3 ft of snow. After the latest snow fall, all the snow that was on the roads has been pushed onto where the cars are supposed to park. So all those people who park on the street as half way if not all the way onto the street making it a single lane road.
At least with all the rain last night, the sidewalks are clear. It was pretty icy last week as some of the condo's didn't shovel or salt the sidewalk.

A former colleague / friend from Edmonton used to make fun of us wet coast drivers. He would rip it up and down the streets. I kept telling him the snow and conditions here are a lot worse than outsiders think - different, at least. Well, to this day, he has had three crashes so far in snow and ice. LOL, these out of towners. What I find most distasteful is his attitude about BC in general. I take it with a grain of salt, but the asshole moved out here from Alberta for a better job and the great outdoors. Nothing but complain. Is that all they do?

I take that back, I know many people from the prairies and they tell me they are so glad they moved out here from the depth's of satan's backyard, lol. I always thought hell was hot. Anyway, Namaste from Lotusland.

It's different for sure, coming from the prairies we don't have the same resources in the lower mainland to deal with the issues which leads to worse road conditions. Sure they have way more snow back there but they also have way more plows, salt and sand trucks and are ready to deal with the the road conditions. I went back there for work in the winter of 2011 and the snow wasn't even an issue and that was driving with all seasons. Snow tires are obviously a lot more common as well, with the amount of snow they get it just makes sense to get them if you live there.

I still believe you don't "need" snow tires here, they help for sure but a little common sense and some decent all seasons can get pretty much anywhere most days here. I've been driving here over 25 years, never had snow tires and never been stuck or in an accident because of the road conditions knock on wood. Lets be honest, the snow we've had so far this year is not the norm at all but more of a once every 8 to 10 year abnormality.

Witnessed a taxi driver who wouldn't reverse his car for a vehicle that was struggling going his way on a crowded residential street even though he had enough room. The taxi driver even kept flashing his high beams insisting for him to go around him in the hard packed snow and ice. They were playing chicken for a good 5 minutes

Well just called Mainroad Contracting (responsible for the Oak Street Bridge) and reported the potholes. Let's see how quickly then can get someone out to have them filled.

Is it just me or does it smell like shit outside? More so than usual.
Highway drive today there was this nasty smell all through the Burnaby Lake stretch but seems to have disappeared after Kensington.

On the short walk to the office, the smell kinda was still lingering in the air.

:lawl:

i smelled it too from the snow

For new home owners who never experience such heavy snow fall + owning property.. clear as much snow as you can off your roof. Remember 1m3 of water = 1 ton.

It is also a good time to check the psi on your tires.

Someone must had took my post about Urea being an ingredient of Alaskan Ice Melter to heart :lawl::lawl:

We don't have much wind these days and high humidity makes smell stick around.

Nice weather today. I just washed my car and I'm sweating, gotta love Vancouver weather.

Liquid_o2 12-20-2016 05:01 PM

Looked like a beautiful day today. Wish I wasn't stuck in the office all day long... at least got to see the sunrise on my way to the gym this morning. Was beautiful!

Gh0stRider 12-20-2016 05:43 PM

Still some icy roads out there. Colleagues work vehicle can't make it up a residential street on Burke Mtn.

MG1 12-20-2016 07:11 PM

Roads are pretty slick right now and getting worse. Really be careful when driving or walking. If you have any kind of slope on your property, salt it. For traction. It's garbage day tomorrow, so I went out back and nearly wiped out. On my way home, the truck lost traction when I turned from Winston Slip Road onto Bainbridge. Never experienced that bad a skid. Just let off throttle and let the truck gain control on its own. Made sure I steered the right direction and not overcompensate. Every time I touched the brakes, ABS kicked in.

Harvey Specter 12-20-2016 08:30 PM

Went for a walk earlier tonight and sidewalks are slick af as well so be careful out there.

It's icy as fuck outside! Almost slipped twice while walking on the sidewalk.

Lots of black ice on the roads as well. A 5er fish tailed in a straight line around BCIT area

Drive safe guys

JSALES 12-21-2016 01:20 AM

I was making a right on boundary coming from imperial and I basically slid that whole turn because of the black ice. Felt like initial D lol
