Well "Pull Out Towing" rescued their first car last night.
The street was a complete ice rink but i managed to crawl up it in RWD mode so I knew the grip wasn't the greatest. 10 minutes later, going back down I see an older Volvo 240DL stuck with a damsel in distress. Being a road with a center divider, I had to start at the top of the hill and reverse down it to where the lady was stuck.
The only tow rope I had was my 700 lb rated tie down straps for my sport bike.
With 1 strap, my truck in 4wd mode with the center diff locked, and her in gear, I was able to pull her up the hill.

I am the 3rd car from the bottom in that picture. I sat in that spot for 3 hours before sitting up the road another 3 km for another 20 minutes.

Was walking to my garage this morning, almost slipped on black ice in my backyard. Then when I was pulling up to the stop sign (traveling <20km), abs kicked in and almost slid past the stop sign onto the main road.

Lol so today they had like 3 crews on zoom booms closing the right lane of the surrey east bound lanes of the port man

They were manually unchaining ducking piles of chains at the bottom of each cable, there must have been 30+ chain rings on some of the cables

I can't be the only person with a car that's constantly having his undercarriage being scraped up, right?

How much damage are we realistically doing to it?

me too. those unplowed side streets are killing me.

There have been times I was scared that I'd rip my exhaust off.

Do that and buy a huge bag of cat litter from super store and dump it on top.

Anyone know if it's illegal to run studs in Vancouver?

I've noticed my alley and some streets, parts of the roads are lifted up from the cracks. I guess that's because of the temperature fluctuations?

The search for 43-year-old Roy Lee and 64-year-old Chun Lam has been called off. The pair had gone for a snowshoe hike on Christmas Day in the Strachan Meadows area of Cypress Mountain and had not been seen since. North Shore Rescue and West Vancouver Police made the decision to keep it a missing person's case, but will not resume the search tomorrow.

Oh ... after all this melts, we have big potholes to look forward to. I hear about some big craters out there already, like on Oak St bridge.

damnit.

I learned that the lost snowshoers are part of my dad's hiking group. I hope they make it out of it, somehow.

Braking until ABS kicks in is not effective especially on ice.. since there is no traction to start with. You are just wasting your brake pads (and precious distance).

Directional control works a lot more.. however that takes practice.

It is only legal to run it from Oct to April so make sure you have a set of summers.

Depends on how VIP your car is? Also depends on what type of under carriage material is used? Plastic with screws? metal etc?

Honestly for a stock car, I won't worry too much about it.. it is not like it doesn't snow in Japan or Bavaria.

As one should in this post truth / alt right world.

However taking too much salt can increase your propensity for cardiovascular events. Always consult your doctor if you are considering a diet change
