I was wondering if my G35 could make it home from Surrey to Van on Winters cause i was slipping and sliding on the flat roads of 88ave and 128th when it was snowing heavily. Just manage to make it home in 2hrs. Incase your wondering about HWY91 there was a semi stuck just before the Alex Fraser which basically stopped all traffic while morons in the left lane deciding to stop and not pass while it was clear to do so.

City plowed my side street (for the first time) this morning before I left for work. Got back home at 9pm and the snow/slush is up to the bottom of my door. Got stuck on my steep hill until I dropped my tire pressures and used more speed

Pretty bad up here but curious to see what tomorrow looks like

At 6pm, I get to the Olympic Village Station on the Canada Line. I can see two trains with open doors on both sides of the platform with a fuck ton of people standing around. Great, here we go again.

After standing around the platform for awhile, I hear Translink control telling everyone of the delay. They're only broadcasting it through the train speakers and not the platform speakers. It wasn't until some 15 min after I heard the first message did I hear the announcement over the platform speaker. By then, though, the message had already been repeated multiple times in the trains themselves.

Some more waiting and I see the ETA screens change. Instead of saying Richmond-Brighouse or YVR Airport, it now says Oakridge-41st with a scrolling text saying the trains will run as far as Oakridge. I saw this message displayed for another 15 minutes before Command Central announced they would only run the trains as far as Oakridge.

Thanks tips.

(This was the last time command central would talk to us. From here they only ran the generic 'Canada Line is experiencing delays' message).

I was constantly checking the News 1130 Twitter page and they had stated that Translink set up a bus bridge at Oakrige that would take us to Bridgeport. I was thinking 'great, they're on the ball now'.

So eventually the trains start running but due to the queue of people, every time a train stopped at Olympic Village, I'd say about only 3 people were able to fit on the train. I said fuck it and got on the Waterfront bound train and just stayed on it till it reversed course. Still no updates from Command Central.

So after more waiting at each station, I eventually got to Oakridge where we all had to disembark. There was only one green jacket there and he said we had to go downstairs and cross 41st and wait on the other side for the Bus. An older gentleman yelled 'how do I get to Marine?' to which the green jacket replied with the same reply. At least it filled me with confidence that I knew where I had to be to meet the bus.

So I cross the street and already see a huge lineup of people waiting at a stop. Figured this had to be it. A woman asked me if this is where we board the Bridgeport bus. I told her yes as I remembered what the green jacket said.

After almost 2 dozen NIS buses drive by, one eventually pulls over. I thought 'finally, I can get home'. The Bus pulls to the side and the driver starts hurrying everyone in. The same woman in front of me asked if this was Richmond bound the driver just said 'I'm going as far as Dunbar. If you don't know where that is, you'll know once I make that turn'.

lolwut

I just waited for the bus to pass Oak but I couldn't get off till Granville because idiots wouldn't let me off the bus.

Rather than lose my cool like I did on Friday, I went to call a cab. By sheer luck, I saw a cab waiting at the intersection of Granville and 41st with the light on. Ran over through deep fucking curb snow because the light was about to turn green. I knocked on his window and said 'take me to Lansdowne mall'. He did.

Cab ride was $21 before tip. I did not care. I was just happy to be home. I can recoup that loss easy. Took me 2.5 hours to get home. Would've been longer had I relied completely on Translink.

Translink did a shit poor ass job communicating anything. I don't even know if the bus bridge at Oakridge even happened?

Translink was stating via command central that there was a problem car near Marine Drive. News 1130 reported the issue was actually on the Bridge itself. You know, like what fucking happened on Friday. So they either half assed fixed the issue on Friday or it was a fresh issue on the same structure. Like we'll ever fucking know.

Fuck Translink. If Corporations are people, then Translink is Scumbag Steve.

Home > PROTRANS BC
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public...te_partnership

SkyTrain had no problems, the Canada Line on the other hand...

The grade of the bridge over the Fraser is too steep for the traditional motors of the Canada Line cars to the point where de-icing AND sand is needed for traction.

This is fault in design and operation, from day one the provincial government and Protransbc have been cutting corners. TransLink for all its faults is not the fault here.

You must have missed the part where I clearly talk about TRANSLINK setting up the apparent bus bridge.

left work on dawson st in burnaby at 5:20pm in a carpool. We got as far as cariboo/stormont (where the rcmp detachment is) and it was 6:40pm and we werent moving a dam bit. Told my friend let me off ill walk home from here while she turns right towards the hwy where she wanted to go (45min walk the other way for me)

As i go up cariboo rd, 3 buses are stuck and about 6 cars have pulled over blocking the right lane as they cant make it. I see this older c300 in the front of the line just barely making its way up as its slipping and sliding ALL over. Figured i would be nice guy and help. End up pushing the dam car all the way up cariboo to 16th as she tries her best to burn as much tire as possible on the way up

Don't get why she ever attempted this...but i was glad i did something nice for someone random, it's been a while. No one else was helping and figured i could help the rest of the 15 cars that were behind her who would have had to wait forever lol in the end i got home at 7:50pm , so about a 2hr 30min commute home today and my sneakers and socks were soaked

Hopefully people will learn from a few weeks ago:

- Don't shovel the snow onto the road or even to the curb. If you do, you most likely won't be able to park beside it and end up 3ft from the curb. If our snow plows think there's a chance they might hit a car on a side st they will NOT even attempt to plow your street. Main roads get done first so your st might not even get plowed period.

- Don't cover the catch basin

- You're liable if someone slips on the sidewalk in front of your house, so clear it off. It's a bylaw.

- If you need to go down an alley to park in your yard/garage, clean the entire road in front of your property, it'll make a huge difference and you'll be happy you did.
I cleaned the entire alley at my parents house, the neighbors walked out a few times to look. the next day, the next 4 houses all did the same. the alley was an ice rink last time

Bylaws don't mean shit if they're not being actively enforced. There are so many houses (on my regular commute) that don't plow their sidewalks (during the last storm and this one) in both Burnaby and Vancouver.

Looks like south Richmond was hit with a few cm of snow, it was sketchy compared to the last couple of days. Roads didn't look plowed, maybe 2-3cm build up on the main roads.

Once I hit central/north Richmond, it was fine, didn't look like it got any new snow. The drive into Vancouver was uneventful.

getting worried about the forecast for this thursday, ie. heavy rain... there is going to be either lots of flooding or roof collapses everywhere.

Enforced or not, someone takes a dive in front of your house and breaks a hip... you're fucked. There's a lot of slimeballs out there who would love to cash in on an easy law suit. Find an sidewalk that's hasn't been shoveled, take a slip and try to use your wrist to break your fall, break wrist, have a witness, take a few photos. That house is now fucked. The news/radio have said before to shovel it and how it is a bylaw. If it happened to me I wouldn't be able to work for a while as I need both hands to work. I wouldn't be able to go on compo so damn rights I'd want my loss made up for, and then some. If there's a way for the city to avoid paying someone, they'll do it. Look at the tree that fell over into that house the other day. Tree on city property, damaged 2 houses, and the city won't pay for it. It's an "act of god" and you're on your own.

Don't forget, in a city with thousands upon thousands upon thousands of houses with very limited bylaw officers (there's really not as many of them as you'd think), there's not a snow balls chance in hell that they'll make it to every house. some houses were fined though. If i run into a bylaw officer today at work I'll ask him if and how many and what the price is on the fine and how many have been given out.

In Richmond there is no charging section in the bylaw for single family homes, only commercial properties and multi-family properties. Council will be trying to change that.

I believe the fine in Vancouver is $250? In Coquitlam, it is $75

Something I had forgotten to mention in my post.

Commercial properties are targeted first

Alerts for: Metro Vancouver

Quote:
Alerts for: Metro Vancouver

Watches
4:22 AM PST Tuesday 07 February 2017
Winter storm watch in effect for:
- Metro Vancouver

The last Pacific storm this week is expected to arrive late Wednesday in the form of a strong warm front. The front will move in from the south and spread warmer, moist air into the region Wednesday night. With arctic air in place, there will be heavy snow initially Wednesday night along with a good chance of freezing rain. This will be followed by significant rainfall on Thursday. The greatest amount of snow and freezing rain will occur over inland sections. Freezing rain will be a particular problem for the Fraser Valley. Whistler will not feel the effects of the warm air so precipitation should remain as snow during the entire storm.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Winter storm watches are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.tempetepacifique-pacificstorm.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports to #BCStorm.
