Too much rain for the Canada Line ... commuters get to ride bus bridge between bridgeport and Marine Station again.
Good thing I just missed this. Trains were running really slow this morning. People getting agitated that others weren't making space for each other to get in and out of the train. I was expecting shit to hit the fan at some point.
It's fascinating to know the Canada Line uses an inferior system compared to Skytrain. I guess they thought since half the line is underground, they could cut corners?
What more do you want from Translink? The STM in Montreal gets delayed all the time during winter, as do their buses. It's not like snowfall is a foreign concept to them over there. Ontario's GO is also in the same boat. They experience bus and rail delays quite often due to the snow. And remember, they're places that experience proper winters, unlike the rainy ones Vancouver usually gets.
are we talking 15 minute delays or 2 hours+ delays because an entire bridge was shut down?
I think getting frustrated is warranted at a relatively new rapid transport system that can't handle a few centimeters of snow at a time. I haven't been to Toronto in a long time but I recall their system and Montreals are like what, from the 60's? Expo 67 for Montreal? Canada Line opened in 2009.
that and the ice bombs on AF and PM, design oversight over 9000.
if you have to park outdoors, think carefully where you choose to be. someone came to our office for a meeting and parked a few hours ago in one of the outside paid parking lots, and she just came back saying the lot is now flooded up to the bottom of her car and she can't get to it without getting a good soaking. thankfully it can't get any deeper because the water is overflowing over the curb line but still...

canada line was shit job, and the city knew about it. station were done so small, over capacity in 6 months, they way trains are grounded. brake dust generated by trains (breaks down system quite often). the city cut corner at all the way when designing canada line.

I don't think the City of Vancouver designed the Canada line...

Reminds me of when 152nd in Surrey used to flood all the time by the Golf Courses. Some lady driving her honda drives through the deep water and her car stalls, just as I'm driving by in my F150 in the other lane she opens her door and a Tidal Wave goes right inside her car. I felt somewhat bad but I did laugh pretty fucking hard, nothing I could have done to prevent it.

I have winter tires on my van and i still barely make it out of my street parking because the side streets are always FUCKED. either no one plows them and turns to ice or a plow truck just pushes everything to the side which freezes over night then it becomes a wall where NO ONE can get out.
i don't know if this is being done already but icbc should decline/void coverage on cars with summers/balds that end up slipping out of control and causing chaos during extreme weather conditions

i don't know if this was posted already but vancouver is thinking about this:
not sure how it can be enforced... it's not like how you can put up a roadside check on the road to whister and pick the bad ones out?

You could certainly do it on the bridges and other choke points like they do with drunk drivers. I would be in favor of this.
Lol, sounds like a great idea in principle but you thought traffic was bad because of snow before? You implement this at choke points and that drive home from work just went to 3 hours plus. I live close to work so really I DGAF but most people who commute would not be in favor of this.
