Overheard from a certain little birdie at work that we've already begun purchasing salt to stock up for the snow plows so we're just as prepared as last year. Can't say if the City of Vancouver has already bought, but Burnaby will ready

My guess is that we will have the same amount of snow this winter compared to last year.

Farmer's Almanac's forecast indicates a warmer winter:

2018 Long Range Weather Forecast for Vancouver, BC | Old Farmer's ...

https://www.almanac.com › Weather › Long Range

Winter will be slightly warmer than normal, with below-normal precipitation and snowfall. The coldest periods will be in early and late December, early and late January, and mid-February, with the snowiest periods in early and late December.

I hope the firefighters learned their lesson from last winter.

Do not pass out free salt! It's embarrassing to see Chinese elders line up for salt in order to sell it for profit. They make us CBCs look bad to other Canadians.

Greedy ass seniors, mainlanders!

Just watched another dump truck drop off a full load of salt...again.

IF they were to do it again they should keep all the salt in a dump truck and have a few volunteers to oversee that people aren't taking 10 buckets at once. Have the truck open its back hatch and dump a couple hundred pounds at a time that way if they wan't to be greedy fucks then all they have to do is close the hatch and no more salt. They should also have a small set up for the burn fund/childrens hospital charity like they do at the halloween and christmas train in stanley park. If they're giving you something for free the least they can do is give a donation.

https://globalnews.ca/news/2883145/s...rmers-almanac/

"The Farmers’ Almanac says it has an 80-per-cent accuracy rate, however Global News’ chief meteorologist Mark Madryga says the forecasts can’t be taken at face value.

He prefers to point at larger climate systems like La Niña to predict the long-term weather.

“With the absence of El Niño this year, there is a high probability that this coming winter will be colder than last winter. A few days of snow are more likely down to sea level on the South Coast this year,” said Madryga."

I was slipping around Softball City this morning. Normally wait until closer to Halloween before putting the winters on but may as well get it done this weekend.

Is Madryga aware that last winter was a La Nina winter?

According to NOAA, we're looking at an average (based on data from 1980-2010) winter with slightly above average precipitation.

Naturally, the day after posting this, the NOAA updates their forecast to indicate a 65% chance of La Nina occurring by the end of February.

I ghetto style it by putting the salt into an ice cream bucket and then using those small chinese plastic take out containers as a scoop

I have a sealed 10 pack box of the more expensive pet friendly de-icer from last year as everywhere was sold out of the cheap stuff so I stocked up on what I could find. Guess I'll grab a bunch of the regular salt early for my driveway and save the pet friendly stuff for the public sidewalk..

I bought one of these last year when they ran out of the 10kg bags.

I kept the container cause the top has holes like a shaker.
