What's the difference between salt and ice melter?
Is it just ice melter is more expensive, but works faster, works at a lower temperature, and safer for pets?
edit:
Salt also does not work (or not effective) at melting ice when it gets below 0? But if you shovel frequently, would salt be more than enough to keep your sidewalks clear?

Ice melter works when salt becomes ineffective. - 40 or something ridiculous like that.
The danger with salt is, it will melt shit then the water will refreeze when temperatures drop further. There are all kinds of mixtures out there that do different things. I'm no chemist, so you'll just have to read what's on the package, as far as effectiveness goes. I've always trusted Alaskan Ice Melt, but there are other brands out there. Anyway, that's about all I know. Just answered because nobody else was posting. Where's godwin when you need him, eh?

The roads just outside Merritt looked like someone literally dumped tar on them (only the slow lane though, odd). Had to use the pressure washer to try and get most of it off
