More snow tonight. Do people clear snow off their roof. Especially when it rains and gets heavier. Seems dangerous tho.

Happy I finally decided put my winter tires on this morning. With my luck I was betting the snow would go away quickly but Burnaby is looking ugly. Had to grab my tires in Delta, I don't remember them closing the right lanes on the Alex Fraser, has there been ice bombs there?

i was just praising how well CoV did clearing the street this year

almost 8" of snow in the side streets is too much for 3 season tires though /cptobvs

but still hoping for more snow lol...i feel like we need to have at least 2 weeks of snow to qualify calling ourselves canadian

i'm guessing more school closures tmr

ppl are surprisingly still showing up for appointments, and the gym was fairly busy

Why would you even shovel... Gonna be gone in a couple days haha.

Flew in to Vancouver yesterday overnight, was a losing battle trying to keep the snow off the plane.

Also, there was a funny meme where Air North (Yukon airline) was the only company to have a departure during the shit storm, everyone else cancelled or delayed haha.

When life gives you shit ton of snow..........

You make snow ice cream of course.

For those interested in an easy snack:

Raw egg+cream+sugar... mixed it all up and dump snow in.

Most rwd vehicles are decent in the snow if you load up the rear with sandbags or anything heavy.

Hmmm, I've driven lots of beetles in the snow as daily drivers, and this has not been my experience at all. When driven at an appropriate speed, lots of control in all situations. You do need to be aware enough to keep the front wheels inside the traction circle if you want them to steer (on any vehicle) but with a beetle that is relatively easy to do. Lots of weight transfer is available.

No city uses snow tires on their buses, not even Montreal, Toronto or NYC.

Montreal has a crew and tire tread cutting machine to cut deeper grooves in their tires to help with the snow.

They claim no one makes snow tires for the buses.

NYC uses chains on their buses when it gets really bad.

Someone tried snow tires and they last 20,000 km's before needed to be replaced.

Calgary inspects their bus tires every 10,000 kms and replaces them when they hit 5/32 tread.

Definitely a lot of mixed info with a bunch of horse crap added in.
Continental. Europe. But yes, no commercial 22.5" dedicated winter tires in North America, that I'm aware of.

I'm guessing this is what they use or something very similar.

Buses should use these here.
Only issue is they destroy the roads. I'm totally good with it being used on emergency vehicles, and maybe even school buses. But standard transit buses is just a lot of road work that's going to cost us more tax dollars.

We haven't had enough snow to worry about it, even once it starts raining and getting wet. One you've got 3ft+ on your roof, you may want to consider shovelling it off (depending on your roof structure). We used to do the ski cabin roof back when I was a kid anytime it had three feet or more. Shovel the roof off, and then jump from the roof into the now massive snow drifts.

saw the bus stuck there last night right beside the 911 dispatch center, was almost parallel to the street lol..

it was kinda slippery there going down west bound, i kept it in 4X4 but i think the bus probably stopped at the stop at the bottom of the hill there and just couldnt get going again up to cassiar

That's likely on the slopes of Mt Haleakala which is 10,000 ft up. But yeah, even unusual there. On the neighboring Big Island Mauna Kea gets snow regularly but that's 3000ft higher.

Really not a fan of the colder weather or snow but I have to say the roads for the most part have been pretty good.

I'm still trying to figure out why those who live on a mountain choose not to have snow tires but can afford multi million dollar homes. Driving in Coquitlam cruising around I'm quite surprised how many people don't have proper tires.. Seen many X5's and other SUV's up again light poles and intersections.

people who get into accidents with these road condition and don't have the required tires should not only get ZERO coverage from ICBC, no not their rates go up but ZERO coverage/payout/repairs, but they should also be given tickets by the cops when they respond to the scene

fuck you, spend the money on tires or get off the road and take transit or sit your ass at home and lose out on your paycheck because you didn't plan your life accordingly

i used to drive a slammed mk2 jetta and had snow tires and was perfectly fine in snow way worse than this

Don't these car sharing services claim they have winter tires on?

Or are you referring to their drivers?

To cold to snow!

AFAIK, Modo's the only one with winter tires on their cars - they've got roughly 50+ cars with them.

Car2Go runs all seasons everywhere except for Montreal.

Evo runs the most garbage OEM tires (Bridgestone Turanza EL400-02) - I didn't know the reviews for a tire could be THIS bad.

They came on all the economy cars (Corolla, Fit, etc......)

Can agree shitty tire. Can't even drive on wet roads all the well, nevermind snow.

Next snow storm, if I see anyone trying to get home at a crawl on a hill. Imma make you stop so you have to pull over and walk home.. Get proper tires.. Its that simple.. I'm rocking Chinese Snow tires ($400/set) that are better than a set of brand new all seasons. How many seasons it will last is the real question.
