the rare event you get away from the responsibility of rear-ending someone else is if they cut into your lane with minimal safety buffer

Fucking Richmond drivers.

Please tell me you have dash cam footage of it?

At least with that, you have a fighting chance of making your case with ICBC. But if you can't identify the licence plate on the other car, I think you'd still be screwed since ICBC always needs to assign fault to somebody, and without another licence plate, you'd be that only "somebody". :(

SSM_DC5 01-13-2020 10:35 AM

Seems like Specter + everyone who thanked him think Bic was following the car that turned.

Hobz thinks Bic was travelling in the opposite direction of the car that turned.

Bic....which is it?

Bouncing Bettys 01-13-2020 10:37 AM

If your options are to hit the offending vehicle, or avoid the collision and hit a ditch/pole/curb - you aim right for that fucker. ICBC doesn't pay out for doing the right thing.

Dropped my car off at body shop in pomo this morning, Blue Mountain was super super super messed up. Panel vans sliding down backwards, cars ditched left, right and center. On the way back to Richmond, on Blue Mtn, FedEx truck, bus, and several other cars were stuck.

I have winters and I still couldn't get started on Blue Mtn, slid back a bit, gave up and took Nelson LOL.

Marine x SB Boundary, bus/semi/sedan crashed. Knight to 99S, two vehicles crashed there as well.

It's bad out there. Drive safe everyone!

Similar scenario for me a couple years ago, rain though, not snow. The person pulled over and apologized, gave me their insurance papers and license. ICBC still ruled me to be at fault.

Wow wtf? That's pretty messed up.

What am I missing here...

Yep this. Looks like my original post was poorly written.

Had a tonne of fun ripping around town yesterday. Just crawling past those stuck on BBY mountain without snows. The look of defeat on their faces. I'm sorry, don't expect me to push you when you're not even prepared for the conditions in your own neighborhood, which happens yearly on top of the many warnings.

Buddy has a video of a Jeep Wrangler towing a full on 18wheeler across the Port Mann this morning.. LOL

Because, by the letter of the law, you are supposed to leave enough of a gap to be able to anticipate this stuff. Now, whether or not that is realistic in a daily fashion is certainly debatable. But by the letter of the law, that's the deal.

Which means, when it happens to us we get to bitch about the guy in front causing the problem. When it happens to someone else on the internet we get to ride the high horse that they should be prepared! ha

garaged 1.5yr old as3+ did very well on -7C flat city roads

2wd open diff no traction control

westopher 01-13-2020 12:15 PM

The guy turned left in front of him. You guys are misunderstanding what he wrote. You can't leave a gap when someone is coming towards you.

hud 91gt 01-13-2020 02:37 PM

Doesn’t matter still his fault lol jk.

Last night the traffic was going a solid 20km/h when the 5 or 6 cars in front of me all went into the left turning lane at the traffic light ahead. One car decided to switch back to my lane and cut me right off. It required some evasive maneuvering, without anything I could have done to prevent it. People just turn to idiots in this weather. There is no explanation lol. They then continued to drive about 15km/h for the next 3 km.

On another note. I headed up into the hills to try and find some deep windrows to try and get stuck in. It didn’t work. I wanted to use the locking feature. Lol.

coneZONE 01-13-2020 02:58 PM

Going up the cut west bound last night wasn’t bad, but there were tons of cars stuck and sideways in the right lane and shoulder and the Mtn Hwy on-ramp. Still had two clear lanes. There was an Audi facing the wrong way on the Mtn Hwy N/B exit.

East bound was fucked because of the accident on the Second Narrows Crossing tho

Oh boy, it was all fun and games today on the highway until someone in front suddenly spun out and plowed into the median barrier.

Then as I came to a full stop and looked in my rear view mirror, I see a SUV pretty far away, but coming in way too fast fishtailing, bounce off the barrier and then into me...

Dude, it has AWD/4x4, why do they need to go slow or use winter tires?

^ How is the car's wheel spinning like that? Did he manually put something on the accelerator?

TOPEC 01-13-2020 05:34 PM

have u never rolled your car around with just the engine idling while in gear? ur engine still makes torque at idle rpm.

AzNightmare 01-13-2020 05:49 PM

That wheels seems to be going a lot faster than just idle rpm...
But then again, I don't know... I never had no traction like that before.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If he's stupid enough to do that, I wouldn't count out the fact he would jam the accelerator down.
It's just too bad the car didn't actually catch and take off down the hill without him. :lawl:

my bumper needs a repaint, need tips on how to get people to pay my deductible without a write-off :ilied:

Gh0stRider 01-13-2020 06:08 PM

There was at least 20 vehicles ditched on hills leading up to westwood plateau this morning. Some even had snow tires GG

This ... it just seems like it is spinning quite fast than idle.

5th gear at idle is pretty fast.
