My wife's Subie has been excellent in the snow thus far. Have had no unpredictable traction issues on her 1 year old Blizzak DM-V2's.

My work van on the other hand with the factory all seasons leaves much to be desired. Was supposed to drive out to Port Kells/Langley today but decided to postpone til tomorrow. Hopefully it doesn't snow overnight again and maybe the plow trucks can have a chance to catch up because if this morning was any indication, tomorrow's going to be another shitshow.

Why does it seem like people who have snow tires love to rip on people who don't have them, yet also think it's perfectly fine to drive on or above the speed limit when the road conditions are horrible? Yes we get it your WRX is a rally car we should all just move over for you and suck your dick as you drive by.

News say that they may have to close some of the bridges tonight for driver safety ... ie. ice bombs ... presumably Hwy 1, Alex Fraser.

Bridge and highway closures possible due to snow
https://bc.ctvnews.ca/travel-advisor...snow-1.4768346

"With a snowy weather forecast leading into this evening and tomorrow, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure advises it may be necessary to close bridges and highways as a precautionary measure to help ensure the safety of travellers," the ministry said in a statement.

"These conditions may lead to lane closures and/or full bridge closures, given the challenges already faced managing these weather conditions on the Port Mann and Alex Fraser bridges due to snow shedding."

Because unless it's literally their first time living here in Vancouver during winter, people by now should be prepared and have tires that are suitable for the weather conditions. (Same goes for having salt, a shovel, all of that basic necessities for snow)

People with tires that can handle the snow no problem are tired of being stuck behind people who are barely getting by because they decided winter tires aren't worth the bother just because they only need it a few weeks a year.. They'll just tough it out and drive overly cautious being part of the problem. Yeah, they've been saying that for the past 5 years in a row.

It's no different than when the weather is great, and you have some guy in front who's not very capable at driving, so to compensate, they drive overly cautious and go 40km/h cause they are scared to lose control. It's annoying and backing up traffic if everyone else is capable of safely going 50-60.

It almost seems like some people have never driven on good snow tires before and have no idea the kind of control they're missing out on when snow is out.

The main part of his complaint is how people with snow tires still drive on/above the limit when road conditions are horrible. Sure, you won’t get stuck in the snow, but good luck stopping!

Exactly.

Tires are what keep you and your car safely on the road and out of the ditch. If you can't wrap that around your head because you're too cheap to spend the $1000 then you shouldn't own a car or be on the road.

With or without proper tires, people still don't know how to drive here. I haven't had winter tires in almost 5 years and no problems. All season or all weather tires are good enough. As long as you're not driving on summers or bald tires, you're fine. I don't care what tires I'm driving on, even when I had winter tires, I wouldn't drive above 30.

Back in the day, I used to drive in these conditions in an MR2 turbo with ES100's. Still didn't get stuck... lol... at least not due to traction, did get stuck because the car's too low.

Well winter tires actually do help with stopping. Which is exactly why AWD without winter tires is a false sense of security, because people can get going better, but their stopping ability is about the same as a FWD or RWD with equal tires.

Is this an issue with winter tires too or is it an all-seasons thing? Genuinely asking cause I have winter tires and never needed to keep momentum on a FWD.
I guess it would depend how steep of a hill we're talking?

if it's a full on skating rink like the montreal bus video/north burnaby stuff once you start gliding back on the hill for the average motorist it's basically hopeless unless on studs/chains?
