in 30mins, surrey is now covered in snow

Liquid_o2 12-21-2020 10:12 AM

Raining here in Richmond, but my car said 1 degree only.

Teriyaki 12-21-2020 10:37 AM

Chonky slices of wet snow in Richmond. Nothing going to be sticking I'd presume.

MG1 12-21-2020 10:40 AM

Snow!!!!! I am so fucking happy right now. I feel like a kid. The kind of year we had, this really makes me want to dance. Snoopy dancing kind of happy.

Reality will hit when I have to shovel the shit when and if it sticks............... but even that is fun. I shit you not. I like shovelling snow so much I shovel my neighbours driveway. Well, he is like 85+ years old, so I have to do it for him.

I would love to see a White Christmas again. They don't happen that often.

I've seen 4 maybe 5 in my lifetime here in Vancouver.

2008 was the last white Christmas I can remember. It snowed at least 12 to 16 inches the days leading up to the 25th.

2008 was the year it even snowed in Las Vegas, lol. I remember seeing car crashes on the news. Or was that LA?

jjson 12-21-2020 10:58 AM

RiceIntegraRS 12-21-2020 11:00 AM

i feel like we've had a couple white christmas's in vancouver in the past 10 years

nismodrifter 12-21-2020 11:10 AM

Well. Thank god for work from home.
I'm in South Surrey and its coming down hard. Sticking from what i can see.

Not a fan of being on the road with drivers here.

I also enjoy a good shovel, looking fwd to that this afternoon.

Fixt...............

To be a "white christmas, there has to be at least 2 cm of snow on the ground (7:00 am on Xmas day). In Britain, it has to be snowing on that day.

To me, the rule should be snowfall of at least 2CM on Xmas day. Leftover snow from previous days should not count.

So, maybe 6 in my lifetime of nearly 7 decades of living here in Vancouver.

I might be in the minority but snow belongs on the mountains not in the city...at least this one it's why we live here isn't it?

I got my fill living in Saskatchewan plus my new driveway and street....FML

Lol, been driving here for almost 30 years including 5.0L mustangs, Camaros, RX7 in the snow and this might be the first year I need buy snow tires due to my driveway.

South Surrey is snowing hard.

It's funny because just last night, I was checking on the forecast and I told my kids that it's likely we wouldn't get a white Christmas this year.

Then all the fury... :fuckthatshit:

Acura604 12-21-2020 12:51 PM

It’ll all be gone by tomorrow AM so u summer tire year rounders ...rejoice

Lol, I'm not worried about this one I'm worried about future in Jan/Feb. I have our mechanic sourcing me out some tires I can't believe I'm even going there hah.

Edit: Ok bought some snow tires he's going to grab them for me when he's in Seattle next. Goodyear Winter Command for my truck, hopefully I'll have them next time it snows lol. I knew my driveway and street were steep and when I bought the house I was like this might be a problem but then I was like I have 4 wheel drive how bad can it be? I went out to get salt for driveway by the time I got back there was a fair bit of snow and I barley made it up my street I could only laugh.

yray 12-21-2020 01:16 PM

Snow has finally stopped, but most of Aldergrove is without power. Mine just went out about 40 min ago when my phone was at 11%. Charging in the car right now.

Growing up in Kamloops, it really is amazing how fragile the electrical systems are down here. A little snow or wind and it goes out. So many above-ground grid systems.

MG1 12-22-2020 01:16 AM

This would come in handy during a power outage.

Zedbra 12-22-2020 05:53 AM

Are the roads an ice field this morning in the Lower Mainland? I'm supposed to head out to Langley today, but can push it for another day if the roads are a skating rink

westopher 12-22-2020 06:21 AM

They aren’t bad on the main roads from north van to downtown. It’s like 1 degree so they are more wet than icy if they are a main route. The sidewalks are fucking slippery, so I imagine if you need to get very far above sea level they might get dicey. I didn’t slide anywhere at all and even gave it a couple tester throttles to see. Looks like south of us got it worse yesterday with the snow though. Lots of accidents yesterday evening in the Surrey/Langley area.

BIC_BAWS 12-22-2020 06:30 AM

North Delta to Richmond (91) was fine. No ice. Just idiots with ice sheets on their cars

twitchyzero 12-22-2020 08:11 PM

around 830a in vancouver felt ice skatey even on a crawl when turning left prematurely (4wd new snowflake tires)
otherwise fine as well as on the way home an hour or two ago
