Drove my wife to work at around 7:30 this morning. Streets were pretty good until I hit Cambie and King Edward - it was a bit of a mess in that area. Hoping that things are plowed and in better condition when I pick her up later.

had to drive the wife to work around 8:15

kingsway was plowed, once i got to 12th ave it was not plowed and everyone went on the one lane that was cleared. a couple of trucks took the unplowed lane so i ended up taking the unplowed lane and passed everyone down towards the hospital area.
Surprised the hospital area wasn't plowed.

driving back home, broadway was zero plowed

Really interesting snow. Fine layer of ice formed on top of it all. That picture posted above caught what it looks like very nicely. Icy as hell outside.

Snow is heavy today. Get out there before the rain starts if you have to shovel a public walkway.

Had to drive from Coquitlam to Burnaby this morning around 9am, the whole strip from Coquilam center to the HWY was completely ice and was backed up quite a bit. I ended up driving through RiverView and it was completely plowed. Cruised pass all the traffic and accidents.

I find if you're vehicle is prepared for the side roads then take them. You will get there faster and safer than the main roads.

I'm really curious how well 1 or 2 year old (not 1 or 2 season old) All Weather tires would work in these conditions?

If you mean stuff like CrossClimates and WRG4s then I suspect they're fine as their mileage warranties go up to 100,000km so 1 or 2 years is nothing on those tires. I think the CrossClimate is specifically designed so there's more void area as they wear so that performance in winter is mostly maintained.

I got me one of these sleigh shovels (https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/y...psugg_q=snow+s) from Canadian Tire and it's a lifesaver for my back. I can get my driveway and sidewalk cleared in half the time now. Got a bit of bruising on my knee as I use my knee to lift it up to unload the snow sometimes but it beats being sore all over (I have a WFH office dad bod).

Yeah, that's exactly what I was wondering.
I don't know enough about them as I've always had summer tires and winter tires.

But hearing too many people say screw it and ordered All Weather tires cause they don't want the hassles of changing tires twice a year.

I put crossclimate2's on my Mazda right before the floods and wow what incredible tires. Tons of grip in the rain/snow. I honestly couldn't be happier.

This mornings commute was interesting. Took the 99 and just chilled in the right lane which had some slush on it, the left lane was somewhat clear. People were hauling going 100+ still. Crossed the tunnel and had a 18 wheeler swerve between the right and into the middle lane after the Steveston exit so i signaled an went to the fast lane. Lifted truck starts tailing me and flashing their lights as he caught up fairly quickly. As soon as i safely merge he flips me off then speeds to the westminister exit almost losing it. People need to chill they only saved like 30 seconds.

Lots of cars in the ditches as well. Counted 2 buses and 10 cars/trucks/suvs from South Surrey to Vancouver.

Forecast looks to be above freezing and rain so hopefully this clears out over the next few days but more snow is always welcome

I was looking at that thing but wasn't sure about it since I didn't think I can lift it. Maybe I'll see if I can pick one up cheap after season.

I'm so disappointed with my electric shovel. I picked it up back in 2020 but I didn't get to really test it out last winter cause it barely snowed, so I put it to the real test this winter. It's great for blasting snow out of your property, but only if you have no regard for just moving the snow into the street or into your neighbour's yard.

As well, all it can do is spray snow directly forward, meaning they are absolutely useless for sidewalks... unless once again, you don't mind blasting snow into your neighbour's area.

I would imagine they would be more useful for people that live outside of the city where they have a huge yard, so they can just blast the snow from the common areas to lesser walked areas within their own property.
