Godspeed to those still stuck on the roads. Managed to get around town just fine, had to cross the Oak street bridge twice with zero incidents.

Managed to see a jack-knifed bendy bus on broadway completely shutting down traffic. They also closed off the off-ramps pre-emptively it seems both southbound and northbound off the Oak street bridge.

On my old IS250 AWD, i always had to do the stupid pedal dance for me to turn it off in the snow. But once it was off, it was like a snow mobile

Took River road to Westminster
Stuck on the Westminster to 91S merge at 4:20pm

Continued to be stuck in the same spot until 8:20ish.

Moved incrementally by a few car lengths every hour.

I'm not even at the end of the merge yet and it's been over 7 hours since I left work.

I'm only 3km away from home but I haven't even got on the Alex Fraser yet - which is closed. Btw there are no exits from Westminster off ramp and on.
Hope you got home safe.

I read QB had a bus end up in a ditch blocking traffic both ways. I think it's cleared now. Alex Fraser still looks like a parking lot.

Feel bad for a lot of folks in the suburbs a bit to the east.

^edit: Geez. Are you moving at all? Can you sleep in shifts, waking to warm the car periodically, in order to make the time pass a little easier?

Reading on reddit it sounds like a number of people are still stuck out there without supplies.

It's hard to believe we were enjoying a late summer with temperatures in the mid 20s just over a month ago. I could see that sudden shift in weather contributing in oart to a lack of preparedness. We didn't have an "atmospheric river" like last year, much less a sustained rainfall. For example, my red light crash mentioned above occured on that first day we had heavy rain after that late heat wave. Slick roads from oils/fluids accumulating, a bit of a relearning-curve to drive the conditions, and the chances for accidents increase.

Worst shit show on the roads in the past how many years? Last year had way more snow and never got this bad. Can't remember a year where bridges became parking lots for this long.

Oh hey that Mini Cooper was next to me when it started sliding it’s way up the slope - I guess the car couldn’t make it…

Wonder how long this will take to clear up…for some people their next shift will probably start before they get home at this rate.

Most of these idiots who jack knifed should know better. I can’t believe they would be that oblivious to their own car’s winter capabilities. If you got bald ass tires just stay the fuck home, call in sick from work, and or call a cab.

Ya murdering people like bic baws here.

I wonder if it’s because the 2+ years of pandemic these people all didn’t bother to replace their tires and now you got a bunch of wackos driving around with pre 2019 bald ass tires.

Snow really wasn't that bad, it's a bad convergence of trucks jackknifing on bridges, both northbound and southbound and idiots spinning out at crucial traffic corridors.

Everything in Vancouver is pretty well melted now.

Talk about drivers not being prepared for the snow.

This bus driver is like a bowling ball hitting pins.

Better safe than Surrey.

Jesus I lucked out. Just back from a month long trip in Asia where, as Stylinred mentioned, was 29 deg and sunny all day, to -2 degrees.

Landed at around 11am, cabbie I got was a pro and booked it to my place in Coquitlam in record time. 30 mins after I get home it started snowing.

I would have been miserable if my flight was a few hours later and was not able to get home for hours after that flight, let alone with luggage and the taxi bill.

My wife was stuck in traffic for 7 hours. She goes most of the issues were the trucks jack knifing and many people seemed did get their cars winterized. Nonetheless the City of Surrey knew this was coming but also were not prepared.

Also the Surrey school district decided it will be open today when so many people were delayed getting home.

yesterday i ordered a pizza before i left work and headed towards the patullo bridge where the pizza place is, i went about 50m in 20mins, then about 200m in an hour, decided to abandon my pizza and head to the port mann.

almost no traffic until a certain bottleneck where cars werent moving at all. the only way around was a steep as neighborhood hill with fresh snow. my forester with A/T tires went up with no drama at all and i managed to basically circle around all the traffic. once i completed the loop to get back to the main road, there were zero cars around me, everyone was just stuck in a bottleneck where there were presumably some blockages due to cars being stuck.

i even drove all the way to the port mann and barely saw another car going my direction. on the bridge itself there was just one car facing the wrong way that i passed and again almost no other cars there, everyone was stuck just trying to get to the bridge, nobody was actually on it.

it was nice having the right car and tires for the job, it probably saved me at least 2-3 hours of driving yesterday. it took me almost an hour to decide to turn around before the patullo, then once i headed for the port mann i got home in burquitlam in just 40 mins.

another big positive was i called the pizza place when i got home to ask if they could freeze my pizza for me and they said they totally missed my order and never made it, so i got refunded!

Was listening to Nat and Drew on Move Radio this morning. Callers had all kinds of interesting stories. One I thought was useful, was when you have to go take a dump or a leak, open both doors and and go in between said doors and do your thing.

What interested me more, was when Nat mentioned the time she saw this young lady in a blue sequinned dress doing it in front of her car................. reminds me of Operation Revnose night - hot chick in shiny blue, super tight, dress prancing across the street. Me being a nice guy letting her cross so she could catch the skytrain. Her smiling and waving thanks (engrained in my memory forever). That was the night I decided to get a dashcam, because nobody on RS would believe me (Pics or it didn't happen). Gulolol.
