Maybe if they didn't spend so much money on cosmetics they could budget for some snow clearing equipment. I've been through Kelowna, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Winnipeg, Montreal, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee this year and YVR was by far the prettiest. I don't really care about fancy art installations and suspended walkways while slogging nearly a kilometer (I checked) just to get my passport checked when reentering Canada but that's just me. |
Subsidize a bannock restaurant rather than get an additional de-icer? :troll: |
Wow yvr must be severely understaffed since they're blocking international arrivals until saturday, now that really is a clusterfuck Passengers are reporting that the airlines aren't even fulfilling their obligations of compensating passengers What a mess |
Drove into work around 9AM today, Burnaby was totally fine. My strata's snow guy hasn't been doing the work though, the common driveway is still all a mess. So is my work's loading dock/back entrance where I access the parking. Wtf are you doing Colliers? |
I fly out (hopefully) on Friday to the states for some warmer weather. Unsure what the heck will happen. RIP |

For shits and giggles, the Skyteam lounge at international departures just added bubble tea as part of their offering courtesy of China Airlines. |
YVR had a recent completion of a 300 million bucks expansion of their international terminal. -eight additional gates, more retail areas, and of course tree decorations inside the atrium area. -yoga space, dog washrooms. -hot drinking water stations for the Asian passengers of course. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/vanc...n-photos-video You would think that airport management would set aside some budget for airport maintenance such as snow removal for the runaways. How about a few million bucks from the 300 million budget for the terminal expansion for more snow removal equipment and more staffing instead? Instead, they spend money on an international terminal expansion that includes a trees surrounded by glass panels  -from the article: The centrepiece of the Pier D expansion is its one-of-a-kind outdoor enclosure that simulates the natural outdoors of BC. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels enclose an opening in the roof that exposes a forest and coastal-like environment to weather — complete with real trees in real soil that was “blown” into the space during construction. |

TC NOTAM's are pretty serious business. YVR is straight fucked and it's nothing to do w the carriers. I don't think anything will be rescinded. It's going to take a long time to clear out all the backlog at YVR. btw - airlines aren't required to compensate travelers for weather related events. i know - the argument will be made that the weather isn't the root cause, but ultimately that will be their reasoning. RIP staff dealing w rage-Karens right now. |
Not looking good for leaving on Saturday… FIVE DAYS after the snow fell lol.. |
that will be 1 day after the next major snow fall. and the same day as the eventual, and inevitable floods and power outages. add in 5 days of backlog at YVR and ya, it's not looking great. i can bail on the flight - trying to figure out if I can bail on the accomo |
Drove into the office today. 22 minutes from East Van to Richmond, not bad at all! Surprising that certain major roads such as Oak Street southbound haven't really been cleared. Felt a bit of slippage along 41st down the hill to Main Street, otherwise OK. Wonder what the 5pm drive home will be like. |

If you have an option to use Abbotsford airport, I'd do it. We flew out of there to Mexico last year on Christmas day with all that snow, it was a total breeze. Plane left on time, we cleared security at 9AM in literally 5 minutes. |

Changi Airport Jewel: https://media.timeout.com/images/105.../422/image.jpg Which brings me to another pet peeve of mine. Comparing Air Canada to major airlines like Singapore, Cathay, KLM, Emirates. The reason why those Airlines are so much better is a ton of government subsidies, and the fact is that they have no domestic market to serve! Whereas AC needs to maintain regular flights to Moosebutt, Saskatchewan - the other Airlines can focus on a premium experience for passengers because it can pick the best destinations that pay $$$ and don't have to subsidize non-profitable domestic routes. |
Are we getting another massive snow dump on Friday? |

Emirates, Qatar, and maybe a Singapore are like 1A, with two of them being so subsidized by private money other airlines will never touch them (continuing to fly the A380 etc) Lufthansa, KLM, etc. all the euro Carriers are all garbage now besides maybe Turkish. Lufthansa might have a newer, nicer fleet than AC but they all have the same issues that the Canadian carriers do with service, refunds, etc. Everyone outside of those top airlines used Covid as an excuse to cut service drastically and with tighter and tighter margins it’s doubtful airlines like BA, Lufthansa, etc will ever return to what they once were |

It might also just fizzle out into nothing. |
