man i'm looking forward to saturday when we have 8C highs, and for entire following week.
I think flooding might be pretty serious though, tons of built up snow, 20+mm of rain every day, temperature swing of over 15 degrees.. we work sorta half inside half outside so these -15C days have been really hard on everyone

Drove out to Richmond from tri cities, pretty clear roads and fast moving.

Only hairy part was black ice at the end of the highway at alderbridge and shell when it slows down from the overpass.

If they're little patches of ice with some pavement, then winter tires will definitely help. If it's one big sheet of ice nothing except studded tires will help.

Going up, you need momentum. Going down, you just need to pray lol

Never seen this much ice forming before with any snowfall I can remember

During the day all the snow on the roof and gutters melts a little and my whole front porch and stairs are a 2” sheet of ice

have they treated all main roads in east van/burnaby areas yet or are they just letting cars drive over it in hopes it melts stuff on it's own?

i would think by now the main roads are 'ok' but this is vancouver after all

Hung out with this guy all Tuesday morning. He hung out around for a couple hours eating all the grass clippings after I plowed the snow. Just a nice way to take a break and watch nature.

Winter Storm Warning issued

Quote:
10:07 AM PST Thursday 22 December 2022
Winter storm warning in effect for:

Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Travel conditions will be challenging due to heavy snow, ice pellets, freezing rain, and heavy rain on snow or ice.

Locations: South Coast.

Time span: This evening to Saturday (Christmas Eve).

Hazards: Heavy snow followed by freezing rain and rain, localized strong winds, and localized windchill due to Arctic Outflow to minus 25, localized flooding in heavy rain.

Remarks: A Pacific frontal system combined with the cold Arctic airmass over B.C. will bring another round of snow to the South Coast starting this evening.

As freezing levels rise, heavy snow will become mixed with ice pellets and then change to rain late Friday over most of Vancouver Island, and Friday night to Saturday over the mainland. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm are expected. Local blowing snow is possible in strong easterly winds resulting in near zero visibilities.

Furthermore, freezing rain is expected during the transition from snow to rain, which could cause significant impact on road conditions. For inland sections of Vancouver Island, periods of freezing rain could continue into Saturday afternoon.

As the system progresses and warming becomes dominant, heavy rain is expected. Localized flooding due to snow-blocked drains and melting snow is likely.

Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.

Is that sarcasm?

$21 isn't much in this city. Working at the airport isn't a breeze either, security clearance and all that crap can be a pain in the ass, it's also not the closest commute.

I can see why they have issues attracting workers.

I've said it many times on this forum, via the cost of housing in this city -- we've essentially fucked ourselves, get used to this kind of crap in the future.

Not looking forward to the storm tonight/tomorrow. Supposed to have Christmas Eve dinner at my parents in Surrey, but not going to take the kids through a mess even with snow tires.

I have a feeling it won't be cleaned up by Saturday even if it begins to slowly warm up.

Yea sarcasm Sorry lol

It seems like a pretty shit job all around and they had a hiring campaign a while back touting their $21 an hour pay scale.

People always whine here about “well then you’ll pay more taxes!!!”

If services actually work, I don’t think about how much more I have to pay. Just get the services to work. If it means another $50-$80 a plane ticket so I can land, get to a gate, and get my luggage in a reasonable amount of time, I wouldn’t bat an eye.

The issue becomes when you keep paying more and more for worse and worse service. Ie. garbage and recycling and pickup.

I just finished another round of recruiting at work, $30/hr start for a City of Vancouver job and we had the worst turnout ever. But sarcasm not sarcasm $30/hr once upon a time sounded aight now sounds low

Lol. Starting pilot wage at AC is ~40k a year. That’s close to $20 an hour isn’t it? I can see it now “you get paid the same as the pilots” lol

I flew in and out of YVR yesterday without delay. Rumour says there is a de ice fluid shortage. With the rain coming I wouldn’t expect to many issues this weekend… tomorrow… Err…

Drove all around east side to UBC and back and forth yesterday, random roads would be ploughed and some other routes would be just "ploughed by cars"

Some smaller emptier streets on the west side were more ploughed than certain sections of Kingsway by Boundary
