I’m wondering what day it was that’s being called out without snow for 4 days, because everyone seemed to be mad about the day after it snowed 30cm in one night.
Staff shortages can be attributed more to transit and road issues than the airport management.

Yeah Tamara Vrooman, CEO of YVR was the CEO of Vancity when they had that Banking System cutover debacle like 5 years ago. Sounds like she's had a lot of major fuckup experience.
Horrible airport management in response to snowy weather in my opinion.
How difficult can it be to get enough staff and equipment to clear airport runways of snow, and make sure your staff have the proper tools and enough de-icing fluid to ensure that planes can fly safely?
It's not like a fictional scenario like in one of my favorite "Christmas" movies like Die Hard 2 where you have terrorists hijacking a plane and hacking into the airport control tower to control communications with pilots haha.
Where is John McClane when you need a hero to save an airport?

According to an air passenger rights rep, airlines are supposed to walk u out on the tarmac if wait times are going to be over 3hrs, but airlines have to foot the bill to get you off and thru the tarmac that way

Sad part about it, just like icbc, TransLink the CEO will still get their 6 digit bonus because they did a wonderful job. Lol
On one hand YVR should of been way better prepared for this, its not like theses storms are coming out of no where. But on the other hand u think staff gives a fuck about people being stuck on the plane?
A portion of ur staff already isnt showing up for their shifts cause they cant make it to the airport or they just dont wanna deal with the clusterfuck. U think a new batch of workers are magically going to appear to work? The saying "good workers are hard to find" is replaced with "workers are hard to find" in this day in age. No one wants to do anything so imo blame should be placed on everyone not just management.
I have a coworker who walked 50mins in the snow to get to work, and another who drives from abby to surrey to get to work. Yet we have alot of people out there that cant even spend an xtra 1-2mins to wipe the snow off their roofs but love to point the finger at everyone else
Freezing rain no joke, got up early to shovel the bit of snow we got over night and then the freezing rain started.
My headphones when I came in.
I mentioned my parents are driving here from Saskatchewan even though I begged my dad not to come because of roads. They got to Calgary last night spent the night, were in Golden about 2 hours ago probably hit Revelstoke in the next hour and reevaluate around Kamloops. I'm not sure they could have picked a worse day to travel through the mountains, hopefully they make it.

Devil's Advocate but CEOs and executive bonuses are measured on various metrics.
Now, if the CEO of YVR's bonus was to hit a target of 99.999% no disruptions to flights, including weather-related incidents like this one, there's a small chance she'd get a bonus.
No kidding, I can't really find much of any career history from her prior to Vancity. Other than her bush-league Wikipedia entry:

In 1992, Vrooman attempted to earn a position with the British Columbia's Ministry of Finance but was rejected because her interviewers assumed she had poor mathematical skills.[2] As a result, she enrolled at the University of Victoria where she took finance courses. Twelve years later, she became British Columbia's first and youngest female deputy minister of finance.[5] While in this role, she won the 2007 Knowledge and Leadership Award from the Association of Women in Finance and the 2003 Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for outstanding contributions to B.C.'s public service.[3] She also became the first deputy minister in B.C. to take maternity leave.[2]
How did she get to be Deputy Minister of Finance after taking a few "finance courses" and 12 years of experience? Umm what??
Seems almost as if people are using the snow to drive like even bigger idiots with behavior having nothing to do with the snow.
Seeing people casually run obvious red lights on a left turn, pedestrians walking across a green light with oncoming traffic, another driver pulling a u turn randomly in the middle of busy traffic, buddy guy in a Tesla speeding behind me in snow-covered right lane towards a parked car, would've absolutely slid into the car and then into me in the left lane if I didn't slow down and let him in last minute.
Buddy-Guy Tesla speeding up from way far back, braking and cutting me off last minute (the first part shows no sign of any tesla, shows they sped up from a long way back)
Sonick is a genius. I won't go into detail what's so great about his post. But it's damn good!

I left for the ferry at 10am from PoCo. Stopped halfway to check if my wheels were falling off. Nah just clear ice wallowing. Was smart staying off the plowed roads. They were definitely the slipperiest.
They can't just hire people and have them start the next day like a typical job.
