Just read the guide for removing the two timing chainguides, I think I can manage the upper one, the other one where you need to remove the distributor.. not so much..

Anyone know anyone with experience in this and won't charge an arm and a leg?

EDIT: Quote from some guy on bc240 =/

" Here is a kit: http://www.amsperfor...for-KA24DE.html

It's $350US. That's the absolute minimum that you should replace. You CANNOT remove guides and call that "fixed". The chain will skip without guides in place. There are only 2 guides in the updated kit, as you see in that link. The top 2 guides are useless. The guides wear, the tensioner wears, and the chain stretches. Anything less and you're just half assing it. On top of this, if you want, you can replace the cam sprockets, crank and idler sprocket. You can find this stuff really cheap on ebay in fair quality, they're just gears. "

Anyone have anything to say to his comment? Or will it be safe just removing the two guides =/

If you bothered to read Kam's post.

Remove the top guide, just like we told you to.

If it doesn't work, then get a new Chain kit.
And guess what, the rebuild kit doesn't come with the Top Guides because they're useless.

Remove them already.

If you'd like a reallife diagnostic and not an online one swing by the shop with a large double double and I'll venture out into the cold pop the hood and take a lesson. All of the above diagnostics may be correct and I'm leaning towards timing chain guide or lifters as well.

Heh car is garaged for the winter, most likely going to do the fix when it stops snowing in feb or so (hopefully feb)

I'll bring it by you then i guess, though ill prob try to remove the top guide myself and see how it goes

EDIT: Just out of curiosity if the upper top guide removal doesn't do the job, would your place be able to remove the other upper timing chain guide? And how do you charge.. per hour? Thanks

Just an update I removed the top upper timing guide, there was a little wear but noise is still there.

Time to removed the OTHER upper timing guide that requires removal of distributor / sprocket?
