Options with 1 year left on Bell plan?

I own a BB Storm and I have 1 year left on my contract(3yr).

My current bill is around 108/month(taxes included), which is pretty much rape.

I know bell has cheaper plans that offer more stuff right now(and only $65 taxes in), but they say it has to be new activation only to get those deals, and i cant switch my plan to those.

What options do I have?

Is it possible to do an upgrade to an Iphone 4g or BB Torch and reset my plan to one of their nice ones. I dont hate bell, and would like to stay with them, but im really open to other options.

What $$ would i be looking at to cancel with 1 year left on a contract?
Should I stay with bell and look at other ways of changing my plan or phone?
Should I switch providers if I cancel?

Any info would help,

Thanks

Where are you currently employed? Is it a coperate job? I currently have a coparte account with bell from my job at canpar. Its 21.30 a month for 250 minutes, unlimited after 5 and weekends. Call I'd. And it gives a 30% discount on data and text message plans. There is also no SAF. With 500mb data and unlimited text. I end up paying 60ish bucks after taxes. Plus I get yearly upgrades with 350bucks off a phone.

If not there is also a deal at intouch wireless. A bell store behind highgate mall in burnaby and its 57bucks for unlimited text, 500mb data 250minutes ,unlimited to 10 contacts. Caller I'd. Unlimited after 6pm and weekends. And there's no SAF and I got my torch for 99.99 on a 3year. Plus he included a car charger and otterbox commuter case. I suggest going to that store. Good guys and they will help you out as much as possible

^You could try threatening to cancel I guess..

Might work or might not work. Depends. Last time I tried calling my carrier and they called my bluff, and I pulled out my CC and said, "Are you ready? I'll tell you my CC number right now so we can get this done ASAP cause I'm sick of paying so much for my plan" Needless to say, the CSR backed off and I got what I wanted........ and I happened to call for my friend that time.

Can't you HUP like you can with Rogers / Fido? I'm not sure about Bell so hopefully someone can back me up with this.

At the rate of $100+ a month, I'd gather cancelling would be logical, like I said, I'm not sure with Bell so I have no clue how the penalty is, so again, hopefully someone can help.

Good Luck

There a thread about this already.

In your case, you should call customer service and threaten to cancel so you get transferred to retentions.
Then simply ask for a better deal as you feel that you are paying to much.

If you have more questions, give me a pm and I will try to help you out.

best option: cancel your plan, pay the money for early cancellation and get the mobilicity $40 unlimited everything incl data plan before the promo ends tomorrow.

just got it, after figuring out the proper APN setup, it's sweet! chatted with a few friends in the US for a couple hours, sent some text to china, and getting 1.7mbps down / 1.0mbps up data lol.

Why would they? All calls are recorded for customer service satisfaction. The guy didn't even attempt to reconcile a loyal customer and still let them go?

He'd get a talking to if he did.

for rogers/fido, i was told it's $20 x the months remaining.. read their policy, should be on the website

edit: found this for you

Quote:
20. Ending your Agreement and Services. You may terminate your monthly rate plan and/or data feature or plan as set out in the Service Agreement presented to you (of which these Terms of Services are part),subject to payment of any amounts set out therein, if you do so before the end of your Service Commitment Period.

You may cancel any other monthly feature or option you subscribe to. You will be billed the remainder of any applicable monthly charge plus applicable taxes.

If you are a prepaid client, you may cancel your Agreement at any time. Your Services will automatically deactivate if you remain at a zero balance for 120 days or such other period as Bell may notify you. Any balance remaining in your account on termination is non-refundable.

We may end your Agreement and any or all Services and deactivate your Device by providing you 30 days advance written notice (except to the extent expressly prohibited by any law to which Bell is subject), or at any time without notice if you do not pay any amount owing when due, or you otherwise breach any term of this Agreement including failing to provide or top up a security deposit on request, and failing to activate your Device within 45 days of purchase. If we end your Agreement and the Services before the end of your Service Commitment Period as a result of your non-payment or other breach of the Agreement, you must pay (i) an amount, plus applicable taxes, equal to the greater of (a) $100 or (b) $20 per month for each month remaining in your Service Commitment Period, to a maximum of $400, due to termination of your monthly rate plan; and (ii) an amount plus applicable taxes, equal to the Data Credit divided by the total number of months in the Service Commitment Period, multiplied by the number of months remaining in the Service Commitment Period after termination, due to termination of your data plan or feature which you committed to receive during the Service Commitment Period. Both amounts (plus applicable taxes) shall be payable if we terminate both monthly rate and data plans, or a combined monthly rate and data plan, before the end of your Service Commitment Period.

Upon deactivation of the Device, and/or termination of the Services and this Agreement, you must pay in full all charges that are due including any amounts set out in the main part of your Service Agreement if you choose to terminate before the end of your Service Commitment Period, late payment fees and any outstanding payments, fees and charges owing under this Agreement, plus applicable taxes. This obligation survives termination of this Agreement. Any SIM card will be deactivated and may not be reactivated. Bell will provide a refund of the amount of any credits greater than $5 which remain outstanding
didn't read the whole thing, kinda rushing but that should give you an idea

You have to do the retentions thing...call them up ask them how long you have remaining on contract, they'll ask you why. Even if they don't, tell them you were unhappy with your current contract as it is way to costly and does not have enough features. They may ask you what features you need and what price range you are looking at, research what other people are getting and have it ready when you talk to them. Keep in mind in most cases the first person you talk(customer service) to can not give you a great plan there not authorized to do so. You need to get into the retentions department (they'll transfer you there) these are the people who can get you what you want as long as its reasonable.

What they offer you all depends on how long you've been a member.
Also the first thing they may offer you may sound sweet but they most likely can do better (they almost never give you the best plan the first time), just tell them you'll think about it and call back. You need to call back after a few weeks and get in touch with retentions again. (Took me 3 tries w/ telus to get something decent)...don't do it too often because they log each time you call and you may sound desperate. Also do not start swearing at them or anything because that will not help you.

I wouldn't recommend going with a new carrier because they will only give you what they offer the general public, you will have no room to negotiate with them, and you say your happy with Bell, so stick with them and negotiate a better contract.

check out this forum...this is what people are currently getting from bell retentions

If you plan to cancel your contract with Bell and WANT to stick with Bell. Let me know. I'm dropping Bell (been with them for 6 years or so), non data plan. I have checked with Bell and if I wanted to "upgrade" to a data plan, I am eligible for those $65 (tax in) plans.

1. how long hav eyou been with Bell?
2. if you have a year more on your contract or term, you can call CS 611 and ask if you are eligible for hardware upgrade?
3. it does not mean that you have to stick to your phone plan all thru out your term, you can ask them to change it into a cheaper one
4. be polite and friendly so the CS will work WITH you.
5. if you are still unhappy about what the cs is offering you, tell them that it is not good enough and ask how much your cancellation fee will be or go to any timestelecom branch and they will work with you
6. you have PM.
