I did not exactly delve any further into the details of how a restaurant is nominated or how they win, but it appears that the selection is random and based on a number of votes. There is no real criteria to meet of any sort.
Kind of like The Georgia Straight's Best of Vancouver Awards. 
This sounds like a shameless promotion on behalf of HSBC promoting their banking clients.

*hahaha* Looks like their claim to fame got the best of them.
I never quite understood the idea nor premise behind a modern Chinese restaurant. Putting a modern/western twist on traditional Chinese/family recipes is a culinary crime in my opinion but hey, whatever appeals to the masses to make money, right? 
I never cared much for Bao Bei nor do I personally like it being there in Chinatown but hey, gentrification is the hottest trend.
