No, it's not. It's an equivalent travel document, or at least it's SUPPOSED to be.

Did my iris scan today. Had to lift my eyelids so they could do my iris scan. Those machines aren't Asian proof! :alone:

i just got approved and read through their information booklet and it clearly states that you need to carry your passport with you and you could have your nexus revoked if you fail to present it if requested. or if it applies you need to cary your work study permit, or permanent resident card.

Just like how the border guard mentions you need to carry the declaration cards when a verbal declaration is sufficient

Has anybody given grief/yelled/scolded at by the border guards just only using verbal declaration only and not carrying the declaration card? I'm planning to go down with my wife for the first time after getting our Nexus cards, and maybe I don't need to carry the declaration cards?

Ch28 01-15-2013 09:45 PM

I was told during my interview @ YVR that a verbal declaration at the border is sufficient nowadays.

I came back from Seattle on Sunday, and asked both the US & Canadian border guards at Peace Arch about the whole Nexus card/passport thing. The US guard said that all the lanes have the Nexus card reader, so you just drive up, flash your card, talk to guard, and you're good to go. No need to bring passport.

The Canadian side didn't have any of the Nexus card scanners in the non-Nexus lanes, so I gave the Canadian guard both my passport & Nexus. He just took the Nexus and gave me back my passport. He said that both are shared and legally recognized forms of photo identification, but it's still best that you have your passport on you.

Basically, we're back to have no idea which one is correct

I never carried any declaration cards since I got my nexus card last year.

Same with my passport when I'm going down with my car.

When I was getting my interview done today, I asked one of the agents if bringing the NEXUS card was sufficient, and she confirmed. However, she did mention that when flying by air, additionally, you must have your passport.

Anyone else confused about flashing the nexus card thing in the lanes? It was my first time using it lol

I went down to USA with family and I love how the US nexus card readers have a panel beside the reader that tells you how many cards it scanned (1,2,3,...). Whereas coming back on the Canadian side, the reader was just a white panel thing lol I was holding up our cards for like 10 secs until the border waved me over hahaha

Majestic12 01-16-2013 08:40 PM

They're pretty lax sometimes.
One time I was being absent-minded while in the lineup at the nexus lane coming back to Canada.

I forgot to scan my card, and realized right as I was passing by the scanner. I tried to hand up my card, but the border guard brushed it off, and just asked me if I had anything to declare and waved me right through. Didn't even get my name.

Applied on Jan. 2nd.
Got my "conditional approval" this morning.

Scheduled for interview on Feb 19th. :fuckyea:

Vale46Rossi 01-18-2013 09:23 AM

WHAT?

You found a interview for Feb?

I can't find one till March... which office you going to.

inv4zn 01-18-2013 10:47 AM

YVR. The entire day was open lol

dyan 01-18-2013 11:23 AM

WHAT?????? Mine's still in april.. Time to check lol

inv4zn 01-18-2013 12:14 PM

..Unless my date is Feb. 18th 2014, I'm pretty sure I saw this morning lol

inv4zn 01-18-2013 12:15 PM

Hahah, maybe I lucked out. Now it sais earliest date is in May.

Vale46Rossi 01-18-2013 12:20 PM

WTF?

So was the entire day open?

inv4zn 01-18-2013 12:28 PM

I was sleeping at 7:30, when my phone beeped. Checked email, told me I was approved and now can schedule my interview.

Chose YVR. They gave me a big list of times to choose from - about 10 - ranging from 9:15 to about 15:00 if i remember correctly. Chose 9:15, got confirmation, went back to sleep.

Came to work, bragged about it on RS, checked again and now it says May.

Donno what to tell you man.

wingies 01-18-2013 02:39 PM

you gotta keep checking, i was helping my other family member book a spot, because they are only in canada for 9 days in april so its hard to find a open spot.

i checked everyday last week and i often saw spots for less then a week later, mostly 2 days later (jan14, jan 16 etc)

superdennis 01-18-2013 03:44 PM

I applied for me and my family in late December.

We all got conditionally accepted on Monday this week. I logged on to schedule the interview and there was an opening for today @ Blaine. I took it.

The rest of my fam is scheduled for early June @ YVR. I lucked out.

Ch28 01-18-2013 03:51 PM

You pretty much just have to keep checking 2-3x a day.

The spots open up if people cancel, and you're not the only one looking for an earlier time slot, so it's just best you frequent the site as much as possible.

inv4zn 01-21-2013 11:32 AM

My girlfriend got her approval this morning - asked me to book her an appointment.

Next one was July 4th or something. Took it, and then immediately rescheduled, and got her one this Friday!!

Now mine seems so far in comparison :okay:
