Woohooo! I just got the conditional approval email. Great start to 2014.

Took me exactly 8 weeks to get it. First available interview was Feb 25 at the Blaine office, so I'll be looking for an earlier one hopefully at YVR.

My Nexus is coming up for renewal this year, has anyone renewed theirs already and did you have to go through the same ordeal of booking interviews and such or was it more like a pay another $50 and we'll send you your new card?

m3thods 01-02-2014 07:40 AM

^I think during reading up on other forums (including this one) that you have to go through the application process every time (check if there's a renewal one as I'm not sure whether the 2 are separate) and pay the $50. If no major information has changed, then they usually approve you right away and send you the card. Otherwise it's back to another interview.

I've renewed my NEXUS twice already.

The process is essentially the same where you book your interview online and pay the renewal fee. The only difference is the waiting time as there is little to no wait depending on the location you choose.

In my experience, I've done all my renewals at their Downtown location at the BC Hydro Building as they have the least waiting times. Book an appointment, walk in, they ask a few questions, snap a new photo and you're on your way. Wait a week or two for new NEXUS card in the mail and that's it! My most recent renewal was a year or two ago. I booked my appointment online and there were many open spots available, even on the day-of.

They don't ask you as many questions compared to the initial one. They just check to see if everything is still correct (criminal convictions, address, occupation, why you want NEXUS etc.)

Hope that helps.

I initiated an on-line renewal at the end of October. If memory serves me, there is a renewal button but it's essentially a new application. It was approved December 18. I received my a Nexus card 10 days later. No appointment / interview was required.

bcrdukes 01-02-2014 12:34 PM

Wow, seems like the new process is even faster and easier!

Thanks! Good to know, my renewal is coming up later this year!

For the people who already have their nexus, do you need to dress up for the interview?

Nope. Though they will take your picture right then and there after the interview, so I guess dress in something you don't mind having your picture taken in.

FYI - if you change jobs or anything of that sort, just head to YVR and do it in person. I was in and out in under 3 minutes.

Gnomes 01-12-2014 09:40 PM

I see Canada Place as a place to get the initial enrollment. Anybody tried doing it there?

!Nhan 01-12-2014 09:59 PM

so fucking win, got interview approved last wednesday, and within the same day found an interview for this coming wed. shitty thing is it's in blaine....during rush hour...fml

saveth 01-12-2014 10:35 PM

Just go really early and do some shopping in the states and on your way back show up for your interview. They're pretty good for not making you wait if you show up on time.

Was conditionally approved since last week and lucky me that just now I was able to switch my May 6 @ Blaine appointment to Feb 17 appointment @ YVR

Edit:

The thing is I remember in my application, a question asked me something like if my car was ever inspected before...

Anyhow in the conditional approved letter, there is a line wrote

Vehicles that must be inspected: My Car.... My License Plate....

If my appointment is at YVR, does that means, I have to park at YVR and they will walk to the parking lot to inspect my car??? I can't go without my car? Going by Skytrain

blum2001 01-13-2014 09:17 AM

Just FYI for those who are waiting for their interviews, my girlfriend received a notification saying that there is a temporary location at Canada place now. In the drop down menu, look for 'Canada Place'.

Her interview was originally in May at the Dunsmuir location, now it's next week Friday at Canada Place.

Check it out, there were LOTS of openings.

!Nhan 01-13-2014 09:20 AM

still lots avail for the next few weeks. I moved mine back to next week for a better time

As for where (which room in Canada Place) I am not sure. I will go ask around later today since I work really close.

Did you get that from the GEOS site/NEXUS office? Or did you just grab the address from Google?

I don't mean for that to come across as bitchy, but I'm a bit weary moving my date up from March 9 for a place with no alleged address yet (and we don't know where the actual office is inside Canada Place).

I would, however, love to go to CP just to avoid crossing the border. Keep us posted please!

Nvasion 01-13-2014 10:37 AM

got approved today! 7-10 business days wait now for the card! sweeeeeeeeet

I agree, I hope they are referring to Canada Place in Vancouver and not this one:

Edmonton Canada Place Service Canada Centre
Canada Place, Floor Main
9700 Jasper Avenue
Edmonton, Alberta
