For all you guys who are waiting for Nexus interview

Jan 14th 2015 @ the 1611 MAIN ST location just freed up and there are A LOT OF TIME SLOTS! So hurry on and change your dates if you want your NEXUS faster.

I'm helping my aunt get hers and just noticed it!
You're welcome :)

Friend also said YVR opened up too. Got an interview for Wednesday morning.

On an unrelated note anyone know if an approved translator is required for non English speaking applicants? I have a friend who is helping their parents apply for NEXUS and they don't speak english. I can't find anything specifically for NEXUS. ICBC EDL seems to require an approved translator. I figure NEXUS will be the same but if someone who has gone through it can confirm?

Thanks for the heads up, re-scheduled mine to next week at YVR.

Now where is the enrollment center at YVR? :concentrate:

Edit: Nevermind, didn't even see this in my GOES :derp:

Right across from the Starbucks near US departures.

EDIT: Actually, I think it moved from there to somewhere else. Might have to wait for someone else who has done it recently to respond. I haven't had an interview for NEXUS in a while...

The two official languages of Canada are English and French. They can do their interviews in either language. Also, they can make their declarations when using Nexus in English or French (only).

OK, that part I understand - I guess I should phrase the question this way - would it be acceptable for, say their child who is fluent in English to translate for their parents at this interview?

I certainly don't expect them to conduct the interview in the person's chosen language though I would think that some sort of translator would be allowed if needed? (at the applicant's own expense of course) I'm just wondering (if it was allowed) if it could be a family member or if it had to be a neutral 3rd party. From the sounds of what you mentioned, it seems no translator allowed - it's English or French only directly to the applicant.

No. Contact a Enrollment center if needed but my assumption is no. If they can't go through the interview in one of the official language, then how are they suppose to make verbal/written declarations when traveling? It would be time consuming and a bit suspicious if a kid was always there to translate information.

Do i need to have an IRIS scan done in order to use my NEXUS pass on domestic flights. To get through CATSA screening faster?

No, to use NEXUS in the domestic security line, you just show the card.

Actually, depending on the screener, you don't even have to show the card. At YYZ, I've see people just show their BP and when scanned, it confirms the NEXUS membership. But I wouldn't assume that to be case all the time. Best to always have the card with you, just in case.

411ken 02-12-2015 08:12 AM

just curious..as I know nexus applications are busier now but how long did it take you guys to get your cards in the mail? when I got mine, I think it took less than 2 weeks or something... we just did an interview with my daughter on Jan. 17th and still no card.. I guess they've been that backed up lol

mb_ 02-12-2015 08:15 AM

Got mine on January 30th and my interview was on January 19th

I had my interview on January 29th and checked my mail yesterday still nothing.

411ken 02-12-2015 11:29 AM

Update: just checked the mail and finally arrived today. so it took almost a month.. just in case it happens to others here :)

cdizzle 03-10-2015 09:59 AM

For those who applied, did you bring just your passport or both your passport and canadian citizenship card/certificate to the interview?

The Nexus website just says to bring one of either Permanent residency/passport/citizenship cert.

thanks!

CCA-Dave 03-10-2015 10:14 AM

I brought just my passport and DL, but then they asked for my Canadian Birth Certificate. I didn't use it for any of my application, nor did any of the documentation ask for it. But I'm supposed to go back with my Birth Certificate at some point...I'm not even sure where it is. I asked why they would request it if it's not on any of the information, and she just got surly so I dropped it. If you know where yours is, bring it along.

cdizzle 03-10-2015 11:07 AM

Same boat as you lol, I don't know where mine is at the moment.
I immigrated here so I know I need to bring my HK ID... but according to the Nexus website I only need passport hmm....

mb_ 03-10-2015 11:14 AM

I wasn't born in Canada and they accepted citizenship card, driver's license and passport as identification

racerman88 03-10-2015 12:45 PM

Yes, the site does not ask for it, but bring it just in case to save yourself a return trip.

m3thods 03-10-2015 03:50 PM

Unfortunately you'll need to bring your citizenship card (if you weren't born here) or your birth certificate (if born here) as everyone else says. It doesn't say anywhere to bring it, but I did thinking to cover my bases while my fiancee did not. All she needed to do was go to an office and update her file within 30 days (no need to book another appointment).

Zordon 03-11-2015 09:45 AM

Really? Dammit I think I lost my citizenship card. It was when I was in grade 4.... I have my interview this weekend too.

website:

Citizenship and admissibility

To demonstrate that you are a Canadian or U.S. citizen, you must provide one of the following documents:

In Canada
•a valid passport;
•a birth certificate and photo ID;
•a Canadian citizenship card or certificate (with photo); or
•a Certificate of Indian Status.

CCA-Dave 03-11-2015 09:51 AM

Exactly. ONE of the following documents. Then you show up with your passport, and they tell you that they need your Birth Certificate. Ugh, Government.

Zordon 03-11-2015 10:20 AM

Fack, I just called the Main st. location and confirmed Canadian Citizenship card is required if i'm born outside of Canada. GG

dat_steve 03-11-2015 11:58 AM

Yup, had that happen to me at the main st. location. The girl at the front got kinda snarky when I said the confirmation letter didn't mention that I had to bring my birth certificate specifically, only the form of identification I used in my application (passport). She said it actually mentions it twice in the letter, and when I asked her to show me where she changed the subject and told me it'd be up to the officer to see if I'd have to come back. Luckily I didn't have to and I was out of there in the next 5 minutes.
