Just wondering from some of your responses. You don't need to carry your passport on you as long as you have the nexus? I've always been paranoid in not bringing my passport because I think they can reject you from crossing if they ask and you didn't have it?

When I got my interview I asked both canadian and american officers - DO I NEED TO BRING PASSPORT. they both said no and stated that as long as I have another piece of ID (ie: drivers' license) with me it'll be alright

I have the EDL and I just use the regular lanes at Point Roberts and Track Crossing. Good thing about EDL is I don't need to carry my passport with me to go down since I always goto Pt. Roberts for gas very late at night.

On a semi related note, has anyone used the EDL (Enhanced Drivers License) to cross the border? They used to have a FAST lane for people with the EDL but I haven't seen that lane in quite some time now. I'm assuming they would use the regular lane but then again, if they're machine readable like the NEXUS cards, I don't see why they couldn't technically use a NEXUS lane too. Has anyone who has one (or knows of someone who has one) care to comment on what lane they use?

SoulCrusher 02-29-2012 10:45 AM

You only need one piece of valid ID and that can be a passport, Nexus, or EDL. You DO NOT need a combination of these or any addition pieces of ID.

^ yeah in terms of information both sides are clueless...
some tell me I need a passport + nexus in case of random inspection, some tells me nexus on its own is fine... the two officers told me I need another piece of ID...
since I carry my DL with me all the time it's not like it matters haha

K-bad 02-29-2012 02:22 PM

Appreciate the responses. I'll never bring my passport anymore

I love the feeling of skipping 2 hour line ups where as nexus has a 30sec wait.

SoulCrusher 02-29-2012 03:22 PM

Both sides are looking to confirm citizenship. DL doesn't do that. Again, Nexus on its own is good enough.

used regular line up today...$350? no problem

they kept asking about what car the part was going on..haha both US and Canada

Gh0stRider 04-05-2012 07:25 PM

fucking hell. 20+ min nexus line up today at truck crossing

SoulCrusher 04-05-2012 07:56 PM

Dont listen to ProBoostin - he clearly has no idea what he's talking about. As a Nexus cardholder, you have the option of doing a verbal declaration or written.

SoulCrusher 04-05-2012 07:59 PM

This weekend is considered to be one of the busiest days at the border. Factor in the construction of an additional 5 lanes at Pac hwy might be reason for a higher than normal wait thru Nexus.

TypeRNammer 04-06-2012 03:51 PM

Anyone still waiting for their application to be approved? I'm about 5 weeks in so far.

SoulCrusher 04-06-2012 05:33 PM

Nexus has a backlog of 8-10 weeks currently. This is the time between making the initial application to the time you receive email notification to schedule your interview.

I know that you can apply online or via paper/mail application... Can you apply in person at the YVR NEXUS office?

keifun 04-07-2012 01:44 AM

so i'm a little confused still... i went to my nexus interview 2 days ago... I remembered the info in this thread, so I asked specifically if I don't have a declaration form filled out, can I still use Nexus? The person said No, you have to go to the regular lane. Is there anything in writing about not needing the declaration form anymore, and verbal declaration is ok? Even in my nexus welcome booklet thing it says I need the form.

bobbyhill 04-11-2012 11:18 PM

i've been through the regular lane and the nexus lane doing verbal declarations only.

I got verbal instructions from several nexus guards that got pissed after all I brought back was $50 worth of stuff, mostly not taxable (groceries). They told me... "you don't have to always use the form now, just declare verbally and if we need to tax you will you will have come in".

SoulCrusher 04-12-2012 10:57 AM

It is only recently CBSA started taking verbal declarations. Before you had to fill out the declaration form. Now you have the option of either verbal or written. You won't find this in writing because NHQ hasn't adopted verbal declarations as a national policy.

TRDood 04-12-2012 11:17 AM

Crossed Point Roberts and Peach Arch about 8-10 times since January 2012 when I started using the Nexus.

None of them requested the written declaration form. Verbal declaration was sufficient.

GLOW 04-12-2012 05:42 PM

my wife just got her interview today & they told her she can fill out the form or verbally declare.

i've only tested my nexus once and we verbally declared no problem.

TypeRNammer 04-12-2012 09:58 PM

Finally after the long wait, closer to 7 weeks, I've been approved conditionally for an interview :fuckyea:

End of May is my appointment :okay:
