Mine is a renewal, and from what others have said online, it only took them about a month.

isn't peace arch nexus under construction hence the delay?

since there's only one nexus booth at peace arch, take the truck crossing nexus

extra 5 mins of driving, and the last 3 times I went through there was no delay

On renewal you may or may not be selected for an interview. If you submit a renewal application before expiration of your current membership, then you can continue to use your benefits until the renewal is finalized (up to 6 months after your expiration date).
I'm currently waiting for my renewal card to come in the mail.

Has anyone crossed the border with an expired Nexus with any issues?

That's the quote I pulled directly from https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/det...-membership%3F

I went down on Monday afternoon and they had 3 Nexus lanes open at Peace Arch. I don't recall seeing any construction.

I think he meant the CDN side.

Peace Arch:
US: 1-3
CA: Only 1

Pac xing:
US: Only 1 (that's the case when I was there a short while ago, not sure if it's still the case)
CA: 1-4 (usually 2)

Basically, now one should take Peace Arch going South and take Pacific Crossing Northbound.

Renewal application finally approved on Tuesday

Does anyone know how long NEXUS lines are open for at YVR? Not sure if they're 24 hours or if they end at midnight...

twitchyzero 05-24-2018 08:15 PM

in on the yvr nexus hours...flying in a few days for the first time with it

I've come in slightly after midnight and early morning before and have used the NEXUS machines. I've found that during this time most of them are down for maintenance, so out all the machines that are there, only a couple are working. With that said, the regular lines aren't super long at that time anyways if you do need to jump into a regular line.

Gh0stRider 05-24-2018 08:58 PM

those machines suck anyways, can't scan my small eyes. I end up using the non-nexus machines with the app

This is so true. I don't have particularly small eyes, but I literally have to open them up with my fingers for the iris scan to work. It's more trouble than it's worth imo especially if the regular lineup is not too long. I'd only use yvr Nexus if the regular lineup is to the escalators or something.

twitchyzero 05-28-2018 08:25 AM

i'm told US outbound regular line can be quite long even at 6am
nexus or not guess I should still show up at the terminal 2 hours before takeoff?

Ch28 05-28-2018 10:35 AM

I always play it safe and get to the airport around 2 hours before the flight. Being stuck and stressing over potentially missing your flight is not worth it

It's likely busy because US Customs at YVR opens at 6am. Like most government workers, they're very much watching the clock and won't start a minute before, and they take their sweet ass time to get set up before processing any passengers. If you do show up earlier, you'll likely end up waiting at US Customs for them to open.

EDIT: I guess I take that back. YVR website says they open at 04:30. It's been a couple of years since I've taken the early morning YVR-DEN flight...

bcrdukes 05-28-2018 07:07 PM

Correct - they start at 4:30am. Was there just a few weeks ago for a 6am flight.

Show up early or get raped. 6am is the worst time to be at YVR.

I'm flying out to the US for a few days on June 7th but my passport expires on June 26th, I have a nexus which expires in 2022. Would my passport still have to be valid for 6 months even though I can use my nexus?

It should be ok on a technical level if you are flying on AC/WS as they take Nexus as ID. However, I'd just pay $50 (urgent fee for 2day service on top of the passport) just to avoid any surprises. It's a risk not worth taking since you'd be renewing the passport afterward anyway... so the only benefit is to save $50.

I have nexus and always travel with a valid passport. Smaller US stations (ground staff) may not be familiar with nexus. Experienced this in Portland. UA gate agent wasn't familiar with nexus. I had to show my passport to board.

twitchyzero 06-05-2018 11:41 PM

flew first time with nexus

things just take a bit longer if you don't carry your passport...even at yvr the counter rep looked at me like i'm trying to board with just a DL

at slc they're definitely not as familiar with it..but they didn't hassle me much as it's still a perfectly valid documentation...they're just not sure what to input in the system for the passport number section and expiry date

JSALES 06-11-2018 11:17 PM

I was flying from LAX on UA and saw a couple passengers trying to use their nexus as ID and think they denied them boarding

flying out to US is fine. However, if you are going anywhere else esp. european countries, we had someone who got denied due to lack of 6 mths on their passport.

You can use your Nexus as ID, I do all the time.

sexyaccord 06-15-2018 09:29 PM

does anyone know how long the renewal process takes?
i did it online in early May and am still waiting

Gh0stRider 06-16-2018 05:46 AM

Flew out of YVR this week, got to YVR at 6am and nexus and customs line ups were less than 5 mins. (US bound)
