Yay, finally approved.

Coincidence or not, it was approved on the day the old one expired lol. So I guess I use my old card until the new one comes?

Yes, as long as you applied before the card expires.

As I mentioned before, bring a passport handy just in case.

I will do a citation before I get flamed :lawl:

What's the typical window for card delivery after the interview? Friend is moving across the country four week after the interview so I think it's best to schedule the interview out there.

Starting my renewal process now! Expires in April

Mine took approximately a week if I remember correctly

I paid $50 a few months ago.

website says "The non-refundable application processing fee is $50 (Can or US) for a five-year membership. "

Up for renewal. How long is the approval process for that? Submitted all my stuff a few days ago. It expires in March. Does the approval process for renewal have more. Priority or same amount of time as for applying for one?

jing 10-11-2018 08:37 PM

My waifu's Nexus is due for renewal in a few months. She also needs to update her legal name. Does the renewal application let you change your name, or is this a separate issue?

I applied for my renewal in July, was approved mid September, mailed out and received end of September.

I'm pretty sure it has to match her supporting legal documentation. So assuming she did that (i.e. her citizenship/passport/PR card), then just renew under the new name on her documentation.

Since you applied for a renewal prior to your card expiring, you can continue using your current card until they make a decision regarding your membership.

Might want to double check on that. Maybe the normal lanes but not Nexus.

On a side note, after 12 weeks I got my Nexus!

Please check my post, #876 regarding the expired nexus pass.

I've crossed with it while my renewal was pending.

BIC_BAWS 10-22-2018 01:10 PM

So you can't use nexus lane if you're crossing for work. But what if you're crossing for an industry conference. Work isn't paying for it, but it is related to my work.

As long as you're not going for personal then it'll be considered commercial/business

Raid3n 10-22-2018 06:55 PM

i've used nexus for work related conferences and told the cbp agent as much. no issue.

jing 10-22-2018 09:07 PM

I've crossed with no issue using my Nexus in a marked work van for work related training.

I've heard the opposite from a friend. He didn't get in trouble, but the agent did make him aware that anything less than personal would be considered commercial and to be mindful of it next time.

fair enough, but i think the distinction might be that going to a conference or for training isn't the same as going to do work. maybe that's where they draw the line?

Eff-1 10-24-2018 04:17 PM

Think of it this way. "Going for work" means you're going to make money in the USA (which means you're taking jobs away from Americans which means you need a valid work permit). That's a no-no.

"Going for business" means you're employed in Canada and heading to the USA to meet with a client, attend a conference, etc. You can use Nexus for this reason.

So when you cross with Nexus, choose "Business" on the kiosk and tell the agent you're going for business. Never say "work" because that raises additional questions.

looks like i always chose business for the right reasons without knowing it haha.
