My wife's renewal application finally got approved. It took about 6 months. No interview needed and just waiting for the card to arrive.

Now just waiting on mine. In case it doesn't get renewed in time though, it said on their website that they are extending the usage of the expired status up to a year due to backlogs.

Nexus application wait times is such a crazy shit show right now, as you all have explained.

My buddy applied for his re-application over 6 months ago. He still hasn't gotten his re-approval yet.

I applied for my Nexus re-application last month. I got my physical new Nexus card yesterday.

so i got in shit at nexus, dude told me to better start reading my nexus emails. The olden days of declaring shit on a computer is long gone; it's all verbal now (upon entry).

He pulled me aside and gave me a cracking... when i was able to leave, (after picking up luggage) got pulled aside to search all my shit too.

My picture and passport didn't scan so i had a hiccup there too.

emails from nexus is really hit and miss, i have not received any official communication from nexus (since applying) regarding any changes, most of the recent changes i've learned only from reading on RFD.

anyways, just a few days ago i had used my nexus at the airport for the very first time, using the new global entry machine with the face recognition. i thought i was tripping balls when the machine didnt ask me to declare anything, didnt even give me the option to. all it did was scan my nexus card, scan my passport, ask permission to take pictures to create a profile, and prints a receipt. went through the boarder guard, takes a look at the receipt and just waved me through, didnt even ask me anything.

There's a pilot program going on with Nexus that use facial recognition instead of retina scan. If it's your first time, you need to have both the Nexus AND the passport. Once that's done, it's a breeze.

Gh0stRider 01-02-2020 09:01 PM

I haven't been using the retina scan for months, since it never works for me.

I use the app to declare and just go in the general line up as it seems to be faster.

twitchyzero 01-02-2020 10:47 PM

i cant remember if it was a land border or at an airport...either the RFID got picked up without me waving it or they did have facial recognition in place but when approaching the booth my info was already loaded

definitely felt off-putting, some China/1984 shit

pretty much knew i gave my freedom away the moment i signed off on providing biometrics to Trump et al

tiger_handheld 01-03-2020 07:27 PM

been waiting for nexus since August. wtf. is there someone i can phone and ask why the hold up?

Nvasion 01-03-2020 10:05 PM

We prob in the same officer's pile... Mines since July..

I personally don't care anymore because I just bought a townhouse so I'm broke now and can't travel.

twitchyzero 01-05-2020 03:28 PM

in a different thread i posted that customs quoting 6 months as normal due to partial government shutdown

peace arch US-bound was 3.5h yesterday....i was told 45min wait at 7am is considered lucky :fuckthatshit:

Gerbs 01-05-2020 03:38 PM

I got my email to schedule an interview 2 weeks back. Took about 7 months?

dachinesedude 01-06-2020 12:46 PM

seems like the wait times are all over the place

my wife and I applied for renewal on the same day in December and she got her new card in just under 2 weeks while I am still waiting for approval

Traum 01-06-2020 12:54 PM

On the issue of Nexus card, I am thoroughly surprised about this news:

https://www.citynews1130.com/2020/01...rth-vancouver/

The Iranian / Persian descent racial profiling does not surprise me. However, the fact that this mother-and-daughter pair were Nexus card holders, and still received the same awful treatment surprised me. You'd think that the background security checks had already been done when they applied for Nexus.

I wonder if their Nexus cards got taken away as well...

mb_ 01-21-2020 03:28 PM

I submitted for renewal on January 6th, got conditionally approved today. Got selected for interview though but no big deal.

i need to bring over like $1400 USD in car parts....likely hood of getting told to go pay taxes??

can you make two trips in one day? just go to the other lane? i would assume your card and car is still tracked so they'll know I've been over twice

Almost 100%

SSM_DC5 01-22-2020 12:50 PM

They will know you have crossed twice. I've been questioned why I'm crossing again in such a short period of time. It was 2 or 3 days between the crosses.

If anything, 2 trips might make it even more suspicious

syee 01-22-2020 02:33 PM

You will definitely pay taxes on a $700 day trip. Ive been sent inside for a day trip with $500 and a car full of people.

As for crossing twice in a day, that’s highly suspicious. I’ve been sent in to secondary with US CBP for going twice in a week. They also searched my car. You better be squeaky clean if you do try it and not forget to declare anything.

blkgsr 01-22-2020 05:42 PM

ya i figure as much

what's the charge on parts then. some new some used. all made in canada or the US

12% on the converted cdn value?

twitchyzero 01-22-2020 08:23 PM

assuming it's not an exterior piece, install the used parts stateside?

whitev70r 01-22-2020 08:53 PM

Just pay the damn tax! Whatever the amount is on the $1400 purchase is NOT worth losing Nexus for.

Just imagine all those times you cross the border using the Nexus lane and pass the long rows of cars ... now imagine you being in one of those cars! Seriously, I can't imagine that it's only $50 for Nexus, if they raised it to $200, I'd still gladly pay for all the time saved.

blkgsr 01-23-2020 02:27 PM

parts are for a different car

why would i willing want to turn over more money to a government that already takes half my pay via income and all the other taxes we pay. fuck them.

i'm not an idiot and i will declare my parts, i'm just trying to mitigate getting told to go pay

and agreed, i still can't believe more people don't apply. such a cheap costs to save time and hassle crossing the boarder and flying
