FINALLY paid off! I originally had a spot in march 2013, then feb 2013, and i just snagged one for this sat oct.27!! :fullofwin:

XplicitLuder 10-21-2012 12:07 PM

ya what if you dont have a birth certificate cus i wasnt born here? my guardians used my citizenship card for everything, cus they dont have a birth certificate for me

k00laid 10-21-2012 01:17 PM

its okay i believe if youre not born here, I just asked my dad (not born here either) if he needed to bring his birth certificate when he got his nexus interview, he said no.

He just brought his Canadian passport, but they asked him to bring back his HK passport for verification whenever he was free.

Jer3 10-21-2012 05:41 PM

mine is still slated for feb even though i check for new dates every few days :(

keep checking. You never know, there might be a cancellation

Ok just came back from my nexus meeting. US customs was awesome, really nice. CBSA was a FUCKING pain in the ass, super power tripping. I dont even know if it was cuz she was a woman, asian too (honestly in my experiences i find women agents gotta powertrip more to show that they can do the job just as well or something).

First off, she gave me mega shit because I didnt have my citizenship card but I had my birth cert. I brought her my 1) Canadian Passport 2) BC DL 3) HK Passport 4) HK ID 5) Care Card 6) Birth Cert

ALL of my ids have the same name on them, such as written on my passport is "John Smith", my ICBC BC DL is written as "Smith, James John. My care card is "John James Smith" and my HK passport and ID card and Birth cert is "John James Smith".

Because my BC DL is written as "Smith, James John" and my passport is "John Smith" and my Hk ids and birth cert is "John James Smith" she said that it was not valid and I need to bring my Canadian citizen card.

She said that "how do I know these are the same people?" How do I know youre not frauding the system?" "How can you be a trusted traveller with all these different names? None of these names are consistent, they could all be different people"

I said "Well these are all government issued documents. So how am I suppose to know they are not sufficient when they are the ones who issued them to me? How would I have gotten my passport where it says "John Smith on it if they didnt verify if thats what it says on canadian citizenship first?"

She said "How the hell am I suppose to know? I dont work for them, this isnt a passport office. Come back when you change all your documents to be consistent with your REAL name.

I said but I have my birth cert and thats what it says on it "John" is my first name and "James" is my middle and "Smith" is my last.

She said "I dont care what it says on there. I need to verify with your Canadian citizenship card since you were not born here, the citizenship card is the first thing the Canadian government gives you, so its the first thing we will look at before anything else."

Im like wtf, so now I have a month to change my canadian government documents so they all match up or something. What a fucking bitch

KEY NOTES ON WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
1) CANADIAN PASSPORT
2) ANY OTHER COUNTRY PASSPORT THAT YOU MAY BE HOLDING
3) BC DRIVER LICENSE
4) BIRTH CERTIFICATE
5) CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP CARD
6) ANY OTHER COUNTRY ID YOU MAY BE HOLDING
7) CARE CARD
8) MARRIAGE LICENSE (IF APPLICABLE)

Hopefully this helps so noone else has to go back again.

racerman88 10-27-2012 08:10 PM

Damn, sorry to hear about your experience

Wow...

But for all my government issued IDs, I always make sure it's John James Smith or James John Smith. No omissions at all.

 What are the next steps? Do you have to go through the whole process from square one now?

k00laid 10-27-2012 11:10 PM

She said all ids must be in the exact same order "John James Smith" for your BC DL, Passport, Citizenship Card, Birth cert.

Because she gave me shit for my CA passport displays my last name is "Smith" and first name is "John" with no middle name, and my BC DL says "Smith, James John". And my non-canadian documents all list me as "John James Smith" even my birth cert.

No, thank god I dont have to start all over. But I have to first find out what it says exactly on my citizenship card, and change all my canadian documents to match whatever it says on it. After I finish that, I can bring all the documents back to the nexus centre and they'll "approve" me I hope. Such a pain in the ass.

I just find it funny how the citizenship card is supposedly ranked first for importance and reliability for verification. I took my citizenship card picture when I was 4 in the 80's, so it looks nothing like me now and its just a piece of laminated plastic like the old rogers video card, with no security features or anything on it.

XplicitLuder 10-28-2012 08:49 PM

if anyone wants a quicker schedule time theres one this wednesday at 11am at YVR. I'd take it but i think my boss would get mad at me since i didnt give him enough time to take the morning off work so ima have to pass and prob just wait for mine :( (dec 14 lol)

edit : its taken now, hopefully someone on here!

LOL! Same here! The officers who did my initial interview 10 years ago were like, DAFUQ?! :suspicious:

But I'm sure, secretly, they were like

:okay:

racerman88 10-29-2012 01:45 PM

The interviews are not too bad, ours took about 30mins total for both of us. 15 mins per person

pingu81 10-31-2012 05:07 PM

Does anyone know if the Nexus card can be used (without an accompanying current passport) to cross by land into the US and back into Canada?

6793026 10-31-2012 06:07 PM

u don't need ur passport whe u're using ur nexus (driving to bellingham) if u're going to nexus is usually US only.

k2_alpha 10-31-2012 06:49 PM

That is nuts.
I applied in August and I received my card last week.
Plus I had no problem what so ever during the interview.
I was in and out in 15 mins; interview and iris scan.

XplicitLuder 11-29-2012 05:08 PM

ok cool, got my citizenship card and passport with same name :fuckyea:

and thx for the heads up for the YVR thing, mines coming up on the 14th and was gonna ask where it is lol

NLY 11-29-2012 05:28 PM

I went last week for my interview at YVR and it was a breeze. The card should arrive within 3-4 weeks.

The only bad part was parking was $9 for the 30 mins I was there.

Edison_Chen 11-29-2012 05:39 PM

I was there earlier today with my wife, son and myself. We arrived 20 minutes early just in case. We first checked in with the lady outside (beside the interview area), and I guess they check you off that you are here.

Then we waited right outside the area for about 10-15 minutes, and it wasn't even busy. They called us in individually and then sat at a numbered desk. The first person was the US border, and he asked for ID. I gave him my bcdl, passport and birth certificate. Because my wife wasn't born here, they looked at her bcdl, Chinese passport and PR card. He will take a picture of you, and then get your finger prints. The guard will then ask general questions such as: why am I applying for nexus card, have you had criminal record, have you ever been denied access into the country etc... Once he's asked the questions, you read a piece of paper with nexus rules on it, and you can also ask any other questions as well. Once you read and understand you have to sign it, and then wait for the Canadian guards turn.

It's the same procedure, the Canadian guard will asking same questions as the us guard. After that you will then sign the same piece of paper but on the right hand side.

Lastly, you wait for last part of the interview, the retina scan/check. You look at a machine, and it does multiple scans on your eyes. Once they save it you are done. They also give you a general brochure. They tell you the nexus card will come in the mail by x weeks...
