| Possible non-hybrid Turbo CR-Z coming http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...aspx?AR=254419 Quote:
Honda is set to provide its CR-Z with an all-new, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine option as part of plans to broaden the compact coupé’s appeal in key world markets, including the UK.
Currently available with just the one engine option — a hybrid that mates a 112bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 14bhp electric motor — the CR-Z is earmarked to receive an all-new turbocharged 1.6-litre powerplant that is currently undergoing development at Honda’s Tochigi R&D centre.
See pics of the Honda CR-Z Hybrid R concept
The new engine, which is also planned for the Jazz, Civic and Accord, forms an integral part of a downsizing program instigated at Honda. With forced induction and Honda’s patented VTEC-i fully variable camshaft timing system, it is aimed at providing the performance of a typical 2.0-litre engine from a capacity of just 1.6 litres.
Autocar sources in Japan say the new engine is likely to come in two guises: a standard 160bhp model and a highly tuned 200bhp version aimed at matching the now defunct 2.0-litre VTEC engine in the Civic Type R. This more potent spec is likely to form the basis of a CR-Z Type R, tentatively due out late next year.
Read Autocar's full road test of the Honda CR-Z
Plans for more than a hybrid engine for the Japanese Car of the Year come as sales of the two-door coupé have started to sag in the firm’s all-important home market.
Honda first hinted that it was planning to add another petrol engine when it unveiled the CR-Z Hybrid R concept at the recent SEMA tuning show in Las Vegas. Unlike the proposed production version, though, that car ran a turbocharged version of the CR-Z’s existing 1.5-litre engine rather than the new 1.6.
| and hopefully the new Civic Si will come with the 2.3 turbo from the RDX

CR-Z, Crosstour, Insight sales hurting - Odyssey lone bright spot among new Honda models
| http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/06/c...ne-bright-spo/ Quote:
Honda has hit rough water with sales of its new CR-Z, Accord Crosstour and Insight models According to Automotive News, the three models are underperforming in a big way.
Take the Insight hybrid, which is falling 40,000 units short of even the most conservative estimates inside the company. Outsold 8-to-1 by its Toyota Prius rival, Honda has only managed to shift 19,325 units through November – the company originally targeted sales of 60,000 to 80,000.
Likewise, thus far this year, Honda has sold nearly 20,000 fewer Crosstour models than its biggest competitor – the Toyota Venza, selling just 25,927 units compared to the Toyota's 43,325. Need we remind you, Honda's original sales goal for the Crosstour was 40,000 units per year, a number we were deeply skeptical of after first driving the vehicle at its launch last November.
Although it hasn't been on the market that long, early sales for Honda's new CR-Z hybrid coupe aren't any more encouraging. Automotive News reports that Honda had conservatively intended to sell around 15,000 of the two-seat hybrids per year, but so far, only 4,373 have made their way off of dealer lots and another 3,000 are currently sitting in inventory. Thankfully, there is one bright spot in the Honda stable – the 2011 Odyssey. The minivan bowed in September, and it's performing well against a minivan segment that has heated up with a range of new competitors.
Automotive News suggests that the problem boils down to a change in Honda's image from a company with compelling products to one that plays it safe. Throw in styling that isn't for everyone and aging (but still selling) models like the CR-V and Accord, and you've got a recipe for decreased market share.
Honda, meanwhile, says that it doesn't focus on market share because that leads to bad habits (read: incentives), instead opting to focus on percentage-increases in vehicles sold. That's a fair strategy, but slow sales of key new models suggest that Honda needs to do some soul-searching. Might we suggest getting back to its roots as an engineering-driven car company?

thats the standard one, the "tuned" one will make 200hp, if it ever gets built.
I don't know about you guys but I would rather have a naturally aspirated engine in a FWD than a turbo, especially if its making the same hp.
Now if they would only bring back dbl wishbone...

Erm. Just use the current k engines in 160/220 hp versions. A person who is considering a sporty coupe hardly cares if you manage to save him a few l/100km. Just make like a hybrid of every model if you need to bring the emissions if the overall fleet down. Posted via RS Mobile |

Posted via RS Mobile | Actually the K20A power plant no longer complies with the strict European EuroVI standard, which is the main reason Honda is pushing for a 1.6 turbo. That's also the main reason that the Civic Type R went out.
Same reason why Nissan pushed forward a 1.6 turbo engine with 188HP on the Juke - because it turns out with stricter computer management a direct inject turbo engine is actually the cleanest way to get about with excellent fuel economy for the HP as well.
