I agree that production in set and costume design is great and the actors all do amazing jobs but don't you sort of feel like the scale is a little small? Why does everything happen in small rooms and locales?

It looks beautiful but I would love some sweeping landscape for that LOTR feel.

I love the look of that throne. Forged from the swords of vanquished kings...that's awesome.

I thought the same thing as well. In the books, everything seems to be in big rooms and great halls. In the TV show, however... not so much...

Matlock 05-25-2011 05:46 AM

Yellow haired shits... :fullofwin:

Ronin 05-25-2011 06:02 AM

Am I the only one that never even thought that...

Spoiler!

LOL all the pieces were there but I just never put them together.

Hondaracer 05-25-2011 04:52 PM

BTW: because I am now such a big fan of this show, if you do not use spoiler tags in this thread and you spoil something for me, I will ban you, then ban you again...and possibly cover you in pitch and set you on fire.

Lomac 05-25-2011 10:28 PM

So I guess I shouldn't talk about the book then, eh? Technically I wouldn't be talking about the show... :D

Spoiler tags. I'd say a new thread is appropriate but just letting us know it's a spoiler from the book and not the show is cool too.

I bought the boxed set of books from amazon.com for $19

Hondaracer 05-26-2011 05:40 PM

might have to buy the books once this season is done, how many books are there past this current season?

kinda hard to read books when you have the visuals of the series

Matlock 05-26-2011 08:17 PM

There are a total of 4 books out so far, with the 5th coming out this July. Each book is huge and could have been easily split up into two or three smaller books.

If you're thinking about getting the books because you like the show, just do it. There is so much stuff going on in the story that it is impossible for them to stuff one whole book into a single season without cutting out a lot of content. I am biased towards the story, because I enjoy reading the books but I do believe that I enjoy watching it much more and am able to see things that a newb to the story would not.

Another thing is that, even though it's HBO and an adult themed show - there are a lot of things from the book that I don't think they'd dare put on TV.

Spoiler!

What a great show. I found it after reading this thread and went through all 7 episodes last night, early this morning.

LOL, it's like when I found lost. I went through season 1 and part of season 2 in a weekend.

TheNewGirl 05-27-2011 09:16 AM

You all should read the books if you love the show. This is one of my favorite series of books of all time (and the next one comes out in June/July shortly after the first season ends) and perhaps one of the most faithful adaptations (with a few exceptions) if a book to screen that I've ever seen.

As far as I'm concerned, Dany's brother getting his "crown" is when shit gets real and the real underbelly of the story starts to show.

Matlock> They've been more unflinching then I expected really so far. But we'll see how they handle next season.

Hondaracer> The first season is book one, season two will be the first half of book 2. Season 3 will be the back half of book 2 and possibly some of book 3.

The books are:

Game of Thrones
Clash of Kings
Storm of Swords
*Feast for Crows
*Dance with Dragons (coming out this summer).

* These two books actually take place simultanously in the timeline of the series.

They're all available at Kobo for ebook.

I've been re reading the series since the show started and it's an interesting exercise, seeing exactly what they changed and omitted but more then anything I'm impressed by how much of it comes directly off the pages of the book.

There is nudity and good nudity at that. Basically, all the female characters you would want to see naked you will.

The storyline and acting especially from Arthur leaves a lot to be desired.

Ronin 05-28-2011 12:27 AM

That tall blonde chick in Camelot is HAAAAAAAWWWWTTT...

Go watch this UK movie called 4,3,2,1 and you'll see what I mean. Tamsin Egerton or something is her name.

kkttsang 05-28-2011 10:47 AM

she kinda looks like alicia silverstone

SkinnyPupp 05-28-2011 05:53 PM

I just watched the Game of Thrones episode 1, and they introduce so many characters, it's hard to make sense of everything. The strong british accents make it even harder, along with the fact that I had to keep the volume low :(

I hope it all comes together soon though

maybe it was the volume as prior to watching the show I saw a table of all the characters and their family ties, similar to the one posted here and thought fuck this might be tough. But I was actually surprised how well they brought each of the characters into the show... Do I remember all their names? fuck no but I do remember their alliances and where they came from.
