Back in a panel at Comic Con or something after season one, they said that this is the event that they've been building to since the first episode and the one the director and writers were planning since they read the books. They just referred to it as "RW" so to hopefully not spoil it for anyone.

Matlock 06-03-2013 01:48 PM

They really should of but more emphasis on the fact that by sharing the hosts bread you are supposed to be protected by guest right.

Quote:

"The Gods will curse us for this! By all the laws--"
―Lord Commander Jeor Mormont decries the violation of guest right when Karl kills Craster[src]

Guest right is an ancient and sacred tradition in Westeros. When a guest, be he common born or noble, eats the food and drinks the drink off a host's table beneath the host's roof, the guest right is invoked. Once invoked, neither the guest can harm his host nor the host harm his guest for the length of the guest's stay.

Guest right is considered one of the most basic social rules of all civilized men. Every major religion in Westeros - the Old Gods of the Forest, the Faith of the Seven, even the Drowned God of the Iron Islands - holds guest right to be one of the most sacred and inviolable social rules. Every lordship or kingdom since the dawn of civilization has had secular laws protecting guest right. For either a guest or a host to break the promised protection of guest right is considered to be an utterly heinous crime, breaking all the laws of gods and men.

I think there was a scene in the first or second season that may have emphasised this. Could be wrong, though. I'm starting to get the books mixed up with the tv show.

Matlock 06-03-2013 02:25 PM

Best reaction I've seen so far.

Major TV spoiler above. Don't read unless you really want to know. You've been warned.

Do people really record themselves watching tv shows?

Some of these are hilarious. Twitter reactions.

Just shows what an amazing episode it was that people are this angry. This level of emotional reaction doesn't come from a subpar drama.

Because teh good guys play by the rules they THINK should be rules and not the rules of their surroundings. As shocking and sad ytd's EP we can't be surprised....(although I was because I tend to get very engaged as I watch it)

The 'good' guys get their victories sometimes.. :P It's just more shocking when the 'good' guys get owned.

ShadowBun 06-03-2013 06:02 PM

Thinking about it... it blows my mind how they even had the face to go back and ask for forgiveness (and troops?!) after breaking the oath, given the reputation of the old man.

Seriously. No one forgives, especially assholes.

I don't really care for Robb Stark, but just think about Catelyn. She lost her husband Ned, thinks that Arya, Bran, and Rickon are dead, and her Sansa was married off.

Spoiler!

I don't understand the angry reactions from ppl. It was a wtf moment and something that needs to be appreciated. I loved it.

DanHibiki 06-03-2013 06:58 PM

I totally appreciate it. But how can u not be upset? Bad things happening to good people. We were cheering for the Starks to obtain vengeance since Ned got his head cut off and those hopes are out the window. We were also hoping to see the family get back together again. That long and tough trek that arya went through to get back to her family. Ever so close and BAM. NO LITTLE GIRL NO FAMILY FOR YOU.

Holy shit. That was the most intense television I have watched in a long time.

I was pretty choked.

Just curious for those who read the book, were you just as choked reading it as it seems like everyone who saw it was?

Oh I'm all up for that, but it's done so realistically you know? Not your typical Hollywood story line where the good guys always win. It was done to perfection. Loved it. There's so much dynamic character development for everyone, not static alliances and personalities.
