Does anyone remember what episode that was? Wouldn't mind rewatching. Its been so long since Stannis made an appearance.

The new story lines are equally as awesome as the old ones and completely different than anything the show has done before so it will be very interesting to see how it goes

From knowing how the books break down the characters (some characters story line being ommited all together then carrying on where they left off in the same time period) I think they are doing a really good job at keeping all the relevant stories rolling while introducing new ones

More than anything, I'm really looking forward to how the characters Arya interacts with are portrayed

I can't wait for the next season, this is the part I'm looking forward to most. I love Arya's story.

Book Spoiler:
Spoiler!

awesome finale, but i was bummed that it left out a part:

BOOK SPOILER (but it probably won't come up so is safe to read)
Spoiler!

Berzerker 06-17-2014 09:24 PM

I'm late to the party here but if you remember when Tyrion was "confessing" he had a small dialogue with Varys. Varys had respect for Tyrion for how he led the battle against the incoming fleet of ships and held them off. Perhaps that's why he helped him escape.

For that I think the show writers thought Tyrion was shown as being broken enough, and most TV viewers won't remember that story being mentioned a long while back.

Already seemed like they crammed a lot of material in this season finale, they probably had to make a lot of unfavourable cuts for runtime.

IIRC in the books Varis was very reluctant but Jaime basically forced him to do it.

Then again I could be totally wrong.. if so I'm sure someone with a better memory will correct me :)

Hondaracer 06-17-2014 10:12 PM

cant remember the specifics but from the book but i always felt that Varis kind of felt that Tyrion was his intelectual equal and they both had similar, alternate motives. Read the book a long time ago now but dont recall Jamie having to do much convincing

chin3se604 06-17-2014 10:52 PM

What was up with Shae? Was she faking her love for Tyrion the whole time?

In the book it's more ambiguous, but in the show it's quite apparent that she did (to me anyway)

DanHibiki 06-17-2014 11:36 PM

To me it seems like shae really did love him but was butthurt after he tried to kick him out. Tywin called her up to his room and struck a deal...among other activities..

Nlkko 06-17-2014 11:37 PM

Wait what? So Shae was doing Tywin's bidding this whole time? I've always been under the impression that she's crazy for Tyrion, felt betrayed when Tyrion married Sansa and turned on him by siding with Tywin.

StylinRed 06-18-2014 12:55 AM

Does Stannis show up in the book? or was that something done with the show? it seemed a bit out of nowhere (i guess due to time constraints)

:ifyouknow: agree with your point

The bit with Jamie freeing Tyrion felt a bit weak when compared with the book but ultimately I like how they left it

It seemed so out of nowhere because Stannis got the letter from the Nights Watch asking for help at the end of last season. This season, they didn't emphasize why he was trying to assemble an army. In fact, in the bank of Braavos scene I don't recall him mentioning he wanted to help the Nights Watch.

SkinnyPupp 06-18-2014 05:08 AM

Yeah it's like that in the book too. There are other motives that I won't talk about though, they'll be made apparent in the next season.

In the show at the bank the onion knight tells the bank what's going on in the north doesn't he? Thought that happened when they were there he tried to use it as leverage for a loan

I don't have the episode anymore, but the wiki recap just says Stannis and Daavos request the loan to take down the Lannisters and put Stannis on the Iron Throne.

yeah I was under the impression his trip to the iron bank was to amass an army to make a move on king's landing, not the wall. blackwater v2 of sorts.

badass how the iron bank army just strolls in and kicks hard ass. i wonder how the books portray the strengths of the regions' armies because in my head right now (from watching the show) it seems like they rank:

1) unsullied
2) iron bank?
3) northerners
4) lannisters
5) fancy deers of high garden

The iron bank doesn't actually have an army, it just has a lot of money which can be used to pay sellswords.
