I think I remember reading something that said the idea was that dragonglass and Valyrian steel were both made by dragons and that they were planning on gathering as many rich people swords as possible for the war to come.

In the books it's only hinted that valyrian steel kills walkers. Nobody but Sam ever fought one IIRC. Certainly not Jon Snow...

I remember that as well, something along the lines of trying to get all the Rich People to part with their family swords or something along those lines would be impossible.

The show is so far away from books now that you can't even really compare to the 2 anymore. The general direction is still the same but the path of most of characters is so far off now.

The Lannisters,
Richest and of the most powerful and influential families in the 7 kingdoms.
Lost their only family Valyrian steel sword ages ago.
They could not acquire another until they got Ice, the Stark sword.


Westeros will literally freeze over before the other families part with theirs.

They reforged Ice into two swords right? One for Joffrey and one for Jaime?

Tywin had it reforged for Joffrey (Widow's Wail) and Jaime, but he gave it to Brienne and she ended up naming it "Oathkeeper"

Can anyone make sense of why Cersei cannot get out of the prison or why no one is attempting to rescue her? How did these guys get so much power in such as short time that no one is willing to intervene. Doesn't make sense.

There's just too many of them. There would be another rebellion... They don't go into it in the show, but Cersei overturned a ban on holy men carrying weapons. This is because she thought she could benefit from the Sparrows (as she did at first). They had been banned because whenever a king would fuck with them, they'd use sheer numbers to cause problems.
