I really hope that contract is signed earlier than later. Last thing we need are idiots in the Liberal camp delaying this much needed purchase. Anymore time wasted means another Sea King fiasco, except this time the jets are grounded either way come 2017. The F-35 is the only logical choice for Canada and time wasted figuring this out only hurts our national defense.
And last year one of the CF-18's was probably 70ft lower and pulled a full 7G to the right as he crossed the far end of the stadium, full burner, at dusk. It looked like the jet slid out of the stadium, the crowd went nuts.
I actually found one a couple days after posting that. Must have been my position in the stands vs the camera but it wasn't as hard a turn as it looked from my angle. Still pretty low though since I was right at the top of the stadium. Posted via RS Mobile
If you guys get a chance, read the book "Traditions of Excellence" its about aerobatic display squadrons throughout Canada's history.

In Trenton right now for Aircrew Selection. My package came missing a bunch of shit so I had to fend for myself to get up to Trenton from Toronto but I figured out after a few cab rides. I also didn't bring my Pilot Licence or my Logbook because I didn't get that sheet too so my parents are FedEx'ing it up to me tomorrow. Hopefully they don't mind too much.
The sim and exam stuff starts tomorrow so hopefully all goes well.

Good luck!
On the opposite end of the happiness scale I found out yesterday my application has been in limbo for a YEAR now. I was originally told that I needed to do some formal upgrades in order to improve my eligibility, turns out I was always fully eligible but not "competitive" because I don't have any current flight training. So while I've been upgrading my math and other areas I've been upgrading things I didn't need to considering my score on the CFAT. I have wasted a year because TWO Captains at the recruiting centre, on different occasions, gave me wrong or misleading information. I could have had a private license and then some by now and been much further along in my application, if not in already.

I am not impressed
Fuck that's dumb but, i'm not surprised. About every person here has been told different things concerning this and that. Myself, I was never told you weren't allowed to wear jeans (my friend informed me). I also wasn't told that, conveniently, there's a bus that goes from Toronto right to the base. So I had to fend for myself and go to downtown Torono to catch a greyhound.
That sucks though man. The flying definitely helps. Like 80% of the guys here have prior flight experience which is strange because my friends group about 30% had flying experience.
c/n: RAF's Typhoon fighter jets have each cost 75% more than predicted. They estimate that each individual aircraft is 55 million pound sterling more expensive than they should be. That comes out to a cost of just over $200 million dollars a plane using today's exchange rate. Tranche 1 versions are scheduled for retirement in 2019. 2019!!
-The Typhoon is more expensive than the F-22
-The Typhoon is not maneuverable
-Tranche 1 Typhoons will be retired soon
-Typhoons coverted to bombers will be retired within 3 years
-Cost of Typhoon fleet is equivalent to two NASA space shuttle fleets
-As a side note, they claim the Tornado F3 was 'dismal'
That last article seems a little over exaggerated however.

Was your friends group ROTP or DEO? Due to the competition for DEO I'm being told that no formal training means you'll never get in. But as we've seen, what people are told and what the truth is are two different things. I'm not letting them tell me no
OUCH on the EuroFighter. I'm sure the English are hoping the F35 works out much better but with the number of nations buying into the program I'm sure it will.

My friends group was ROTP. Someone mentioned there that they weren't taking any DEO entries for this year. So I'm not sure. Like you said, what you're told and what the truth is is very different haha. Keep trying! That's the sort of attitude I've found works.
Gab I'll be interested to know how many people were in your group at ACS and how many passed. Let me know when you can!
Tuesday March 1st marked the 25th Anniversary since the final CF104 flypast over Lahr, Germany before our jets were sold off to various countries. This photo is from the late 60's but my dad checked his log book and found that he flew every aircraft in this photo with a visible tail number. Pretty cool:
Canada has committed six CF-18 fighter jets with support from 140 air crew from CFB Bagotville to help enforce the no-fly zone. Britain and France have indicated that they will also provide aircraft to the mission.
