might be a bit offtopic, but are there any aircraft gas turbine techs here? Or do you have relatives/friends in the field? PM me if so, thanks.

Yeah, I got accepted for september, didn't pay anything yet and still wondering if I should go there. Just want to know how's that industry doing this days, any jobs? Is BCIT's certificate worth anything really? What the job is really like? I hear I might be ok if I am willing to relocate as it's super hard to find anything here. Should "Avios" story really affect my decisions?

Right now I'm employed as an engine tech on the hornets. Been in for about 7 years and loving it. The trips are awesome and pay is great once you get your Journeyman. Plus they can't fire you. |

hope this isn't a repost (i can't take credit for this find either). Quote:
This video link is fresh (for the public) from a US Naval Officer. It was made just six weeks ago (?) in the Atlantic, just off Newport News (Hampton Roads), Virginia.
These are the latest sea trials of the F-35B on the USS Wasp. They were very successful, with 74 VL's and STO's in a three week period.
The media and the program critics had predicted that we would burn holes in the deck and wash sailors overboard.
Neither of which happened. You will notice a sailor standing on the bow of the ship as the jet rotates.
That was an intentional part of the sea trials.
No catapult... No hook.... It’s a new world out there!
The shape and scope of warfare “worldwide” just changed.

^ Good luck with Pilot training. There is a ridiculous wait time and back log right now in the CF so make you think long and hard before you convince yourself you're going to eventually become a Fighter/Transport/Helo pilot. The failure rate is high but if you do make it through, it will be rewarding.
Maybe one day we'll meet over the radio.

Maybe one day we'll meet over the radio. | Not from what i've heard read, I don't think my "wait" time will be anything extraordinary. Ya I talked to a guy that did phase one in the fall and out of 20 guys in his class only 8 guys passed.
I'm obviously gonna try my hardest but if I do fail that just means I get to go infantry and then hopefully jtf.

Trans Canada Turbines might pick you guys outta ur class before ur grad...Pratt-Whitney may do the same...but if you are a city boy, forget about moving out...cause you'll cave and come home sooner than you'll think.
edit: btw, all the good instructors have since retired or left....Im not sure whos running the show now.....

An F-18 just slammed into an apartment building in San Diego apparently after having engine problems on takeoff. Hope everyone's OK! http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2...t.html?cmp=rss |
