Nice shots Spectre. I had a VIP invite to the Lockheed Martin chalet this year but of course can't make it. Too much to do before leaving for BMOQ on Saturday.

Gab, guess in the end you'll be a bit behind me. Sounds like the backlog for PFT has been eliminated and I might go straight to Portage from St. Jean. See you on the ramp some day bud.

Ya probably, I'm hoping I can get on PFT next summer if I don't get fucked around at my university. You're doing bmoq at pretty much the best time you can weather wise, I did it at the worst haha.

Fuckin grad week here and I go platoon commander for the parade so I get to carry a fancy sword.

Oh, at some point during BMOQ you'll do what's called the Warrior challenge against your sister platoon... Ask what the record is for the cart pull, I broke the school record

Up here for Red Flag Alaska, we have your standard flock of Civics of the fighter world aka F-16, buncha tankers, 4 Growlers and as of mid-last week 2 B2 bombers. I'll see if I can snap a few pics, they are just so sleek and it's amazing to see them stay up in the air at all. Pretty funny to see one aircraft flying around that costs more than our entire Air Force.

Oh, good luck in St.Jean JD, I was there twice, BMQ and PLQ, and I'd probably release if I had to go back again.

^When I went through BMOQ back then we did it in two summers of IAP + BOTP.
15 weeks straight I think I would've gone crazy especially in the Mega.

Good luck JD.

Anyways went on a backseat passenger ride on an Alpha Jet a couple weeks ago on my birthday. Felt sick the whole time but it was a great experience.

Hahahahaha, and you're only a couple days in. Don't worry, it just gets better. Make sure you keep us updated.

Also, who's your staff?

The MOTP and nurses do BMOQ in two summers still. 15 weeks wasn't too bad, I kinda wish I was back to be honest.

Some staff are on leave until the end of the week but so far we've got:

Platoon CO: Cpt Kool
Senior Instructor: Sgt Morin (Vandoo)
Section Leader: PO2 Colburn
Section Leader: MS Macdonald
Section Leader: Sgt Fairineault (sp), but we might lose him to CSOR next month

All are awesome but need to start laying the smack down on the weakest links, of which there are MANY. IMO almost half my platoon are unfit to be Officers but we'll see what happens. Some of them have no fucking clue what they've gotten themselves in to.

Ya, I noticed that with the DEO platoon that was on with us. I recognize some of those names.

You'll lose a bunch to the Express test.

Basic training is the easiest career course in the Forces, you get told what to do when to do it. For some people it can be a complete shock and release thinking St. Jean is how the military is. When I was there in April the PSP staff said that there were people at the Mega for over 4 years, for various reasons. I'd probably VR long before the 12 month mark. Brutal.

there are tons of coffee courses. a lot of the logistical QL5 courses are way easier than basic! they may require more academic strength, but it's still easier haha.

Will legendary Avro Arrow make Lazarus-like return? - The Globe and Mail

The federal government is being urged to reach back in history for a made-in-Canada solution to its fighter jet woes by resurrecting the legendary but aborted Avro Arrow interceptor to serve as this country’s next war plane.

It may seem a far-fetched idea but backers – including retired major-general Lewis MacKenzie – insist that a revised version of the 1950s jet, with an upgraded engine, would outperform Ottawa’s preferred choice on several important counts.

It'd be nice if this was redesigned, upgraded, and manufactured in Canada.

Mr. MacKenzie said the proposal he’s put before the Harper government is for a made-in-Canada plane that could fly twice as fast as the F-35 and up to 20,000 feet higher. It would feature an updated Mark III engine and its range would be two to three times that of the F-35.
this makes me skeptical too... but man that would be so awesome if the arrow was revived in some way and out-performed F-35

^ It'll probably be an interceptor type of craft, the f-35 is the size of an f-16 so I can see the Arrow top it in speed and ceiling. Although, I don't think it can match the stealth and other avionics on the 35.

Except that it won't and it can't. Resurrecting the Arrow is a very stupid idea.

I'll believe all these "we're getting XYZ plane" stories when I see the plane on the tarmac with Canadian colours.

The proposal is not to resurrect the Arrow.

The proposal is to re-visit the concept of a Canadian built fighter jet.

The most distinct similarity between the original Arrow and a contemporary Arrow would be the name, everything else would be in-line with current technology.

Why? Do you have any idea how complex and costly it would be to build a modern fighter jet? Canada alone would not be able to fund such a monstrosity and all we'd end up is basically a MIG-31 with modern avionics. Hell, even Europe's days of building fighter jets are over after the Eurofighter is retired. This whole idea is just stupid and the retired Army general is even dumber. He should just shut the hell up and stay out of Air Force related issues.

The general's an idiot.

“It’s an attack aircraft. It’s designed for attacking ground targets and its stealth is most effective against short range radar, protecting ground targets,” MacKenzie said."

It was an interceptor aircraft, designed for intercepting bombers and flying at supersonic speeds at high, high altitude.
A delta-winged aircraft performs poorly at low altitudes, low speeds, and while maneuvering.

Yeah its just a harness. Pilots strap themselves to the seat and when/if they eject all that holds them to the parachute are the shoulder buckles.
