The Country singer, 45, turned to Thiebaud for comfort during her break-up with her ex-husband.

Thiebaud, 40, was formerly married to Shania's best friend and house manager Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who is now living with her ex-husband.

The mother-of one suffered a broken heart when her husband of 14 years, legendary producer Mutt Lange, left her for her best friend in 2008.

But the Come On Over singer is now 'happier than she's ever been' - after getting together with the man whose wife stole her husband.

'Love, peace and happiness is taking me in to 2011 and I'm feeling refreshed and optimistic about the future', Shania shared with her fans.

Marie-Anne was an employee of Shania's and looked after her 46-room château in Switzerland.

She soon became a close confidante and travel companions as Shania knew virtually no one else in Switzerland.

But when the country singer's marriage imploded two years ago with rumours of an affair between her husband and Marie-Anne, Shania turned to Thiebaud for comfort .

He was also suffering from the devastating split from his wife.

Shania wrote on her website of Thiebaud last year: 'We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other. We've become closer and and stronger through it all'.

By the summer of 2009, their friendship had turned into love.

The love birds reportedly became secretly engaged two months ago in Switzerland and a source told Us Weekly 'Fred is a hopeless romantic, so it was done in a very special way'.

The Nestle business executive had apparently planned the proposal for months and helped to design the three-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring worth an estimated $100,000.

The couple stepped out together in New York last week, with Twain reportedly showing off an enormous engagement ring.

In the real-life wife-swap story, Lange is still living with Marie-Anne and both couples have a friendly relationship for the sake of their children.

Shania and her ex-husband share custody of their son Eja, nine, and the Thiebaud's have a daughter, also nine.

The former musical couple finalised their divorce in June.

'Shania is cordial with Mutt for the sake of Eja. Everyone gets along now because it all worked out for the best', a source close to the couple revealed.

'Mutt knows about the engagement is happy for her'.

Shania and her ex-husband collaborated musically and he produced her 1997 hit album Come On Over which is the top-selling female studio album in history.

Lange, who produced hits for bands like Def Leppard, AC/DC and Maroon five, was said to be a recluse and when the couple moved to Switzerland in 2000, they reportedly would go weeks on their estate without seeing anyone from the outside world.

But Thiebaud has brought out her adventurous side and the couple have gone water-skiing, sky-diving and for camel rides during trips around the world.

In a video posting on her website, Shania shared with fans that her lover surprised her during a trip to the Swiss Alps with a picnic.

He romantically etched out the words I Love You in the snow.

A source close to the couple said: 'He's very affectionate and doting. Fred is always taking are of her and making sure she is happy'.

Worth an estimated $450million, Shania is said to be excited about getting married again but not in a major rush.

The You're Still The One singer hasn't recorded any new music in a while but she has a lot to look forward to in the coming year.

Shania is currently filming a travelogue documentary for Oprah Winfrey's new TV network OWN.

Titled Why Not? With Shania Twain, the series will follow the singer as she 'begins her climb back to the top, a personal journey filled with risk, revelations and unexpected adventures', a statement from the network said.
