| OOW iPhone and Genius Bar
So I'm thinking of getting my old iPhone 3G repaired via Apple's Out Of Warranty service (water damaged), but before I do I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this process. Would they simply laugh me out of the store? Or will they try to charge me virtually the price of a new iP4 to fix it?

They will charge you up the butt. You could probably get one and a half iphone 3G's off craigslist for it. Try our sponsor JP cell repair? but even then if you have something like a broken screen, they will probably still charge you over $150 and you could get a used one for that price. I guess we need more details on what's wrong with ur 3G

Dropped it in a lake. That should be pretty self explanatory as to what's wrong with it...
I tried drying it out but even after a few days it wouldn't turn on.

Probably wont help since you said youve already dried it out, but try leaving it in some rice for a few days.

I dropped my Telus HTC P4000 in a frappuccino once... opened it up, rinsed it out with isopropyl, and it was fine. Then I dropped it in a toilet - BEFORE flushing. That was it. Cleaned out all the crusties... still wouldn't work. So I got a new Samsung Omnia and stuck the P4000 in a drawer. Eight months later, I pulled the HTC out and plugged in the power, just out of curiosoty... and it worked fine. Using it now as a GPS receiver (no account on it) because the GPS works way better than the one in my Omnia.

Try putting the phone inside a bag of rice, but this is not a magic method. It probably won't do much if it's already been a few days. How long have you been using that 3G. Call retensions and say you want to quit, maybe they'll resign u early with a new phone 4 Posted via RS Mobile |

Oh, this happened way back in the early summer. I had already done as many of the drying out tricks as I could think of and read about. Unfortunately I've a feeling it had short circuited because it was in the middle of doing something when it slid down the cliff and into the lake.
I had already picked up an iP4 but disliked using it so I sold the phone. I'm picking up a new phone in a couple months but since my temporary phone is fubared (SE K790), I just want something that I can use until I buy it. I figured since I already have a 3G, maybe I could get it fixed for the interim.

You would probably have a better chance at JP Cell repair for water damage repair. Not to mention less costly.

I'd say your best bet is to eBay the water damaged phone for whatever you get, and put that towards an iPhone 3G off eBay/Craigslist/RS... or save longer and get an iPhone 4.

I took the phone out of the box last night to get it ready to head out and fix it. I figured... what the hell... and plugged it into my wall charger.
It now works again. lol
There's a nice little yellow stain on the top left corner of the illuminated screen, but I suppose I could live with that!
