Mounting a TV is not hard it's the cables that cause the problems.

hey im not sure if anyone mention that YET but to make the TV look nice and clean with cables tucked in behind the wall you need a FISH-HOOK. You can get them at Home Depot, Rona. Basic concept is to pull the cables from top to bottom using fish-hook: you need to drill hole behind tv and get a plastic cap from Home Depot. Next you drill another hole under your CM. Make sure you get good quality long enough cables-- I suggest 2Meter cables.
Ive installed 2 TVs at parents, 1 at my place and 3 at my families: they think im a pro at it haha
Its really easy as long as you get the idea of what you have to install in proper order. Just follow good YOUTUBE videos. Remember, it takes time to make it look straight and centered so dont rush with anything.
Finally, You need second person to help you with TV, otherwise Ill be seeing you at the hospital for hernia treatement ;)

dont listen to anyone that tells you that "you dont need a stud finder" do you really want to risk seeing your TV on the floor after you install brackets on the edge of 2by4?

Oh and buddy has stud finder, but I don't have any equipment such as the drill bits and stuff. I could prob borrow from a friend or rent one for this project like the others said!

And yah, the biggest reason that I don't want to just "try" to do this by myself off the instructions manual is I don't want the TV to just fall because of a bad job done by me with me pretty much beneath it.

i mounted a full swivel mount on my wall with a 55 inch tv myself... it took 30 mins.

Good for you helping out a fellow member, serious props to you man, but you don't need a stud finder.

Common sense, if you feel no resistance when you install your toggle bolts or screws then your not in a stud. You should feel a reasonable amount of resistance the entire way through without a lapse. If you feel no resistance your in drywall, a lot of resistance your on a protector plate in front of plumbing, consistent resistance and you in the stud.

If you have a stud finder great, it'll make it slightly easier to locate the stud but they're far from fool proof and not necessary.

what you need is
1,2 people
2, a drill with a couple small bits, a level, measure tape, sockets

First, decide where you want to mount the TV, esp the height, get the approx height u want then draw a perfectly level line and that line..should be the bottom or top of the the bracket..so draw this line carefully (now u have the vertical alignment determined)

Second, you have to find the stud or some sort of solid support behind the wall, usually we use a stud finder...if u dont, no big deal, try tapping the wall and feel the stud, then in areas where u think there is a stud, use the drill and put a screw in there, u will know the difference between drilling into drywall and stud by the time u do this (REMEMBER, do this in areas where the bracket will cover); usually styds are 16 inches off centre, so once u find a stud, measure 16 inches to its left or right for the next anchor point (now u have the horizontal alignment determined)

3rd, establish the holes where u want the bolts go into the bracket into the wall, then use the drill bits and drill small holes into the studs before screwing in the huge bolts that come with the bracket, but before getting all the bolts in, i usually do 2 bolts and see if the thing is leveled, make adjustments if necessary

4th, once the bracket is in, make sure it is leveled, or other wise u wont get laid instead..fixing the bracket, also, I would put extra screws in to make sure the mount is dead solid

5th, get the TV up there and get laid..

Does anyone else know someone that could help me mount? Me and midnight_r set up a time and date, but IDK what happened to him O_O. Haven't heard from him in a couple days! I fear the worst, but he's prob just really busy?

Honestly just watch those youtube videos and its that simple. Drill pilot hole in studs x 4. Screw in panel.. Screw 2nd piece of panel to tv and mount... Done... Worst case it will take you 30Mins.. But honestly its a 15 min job. Don't scare yourself in saying you cant do it.. Cause its that damn simple just like doing your own oil change. Plus at the end you can be happy with what you have accomplished. You just need the right tools and your set...

Alright. Gonna mount it tonight, found a friend with power tools. Wish me luck lol.

Make sure it's eye height when sitting. Most people mount them too high.

Just remember that the most important thing is hitting the stud and if your in the stud you should be able to feel the resistance.

Wow... your so right! I just realized i couldve totally mounted it lower so its nicer to watch when im using it as a computer. I'll post pictures later, too tired right now. Everything went great, and it looks great!

Haha I couldn't have done this without the help of my friend man, haha. He's so much handier than me, and he had all the tools. But it was his first time doing something like this too, and we were both looking at the instructions going huh o. O.
But yah, it was pretty cool to put up and now it looks great. Thinking of remounting it tomorrow to level with my computer monitor though.

if it isn't too high, don't bother. filling in the holes is a pain in the ass. i mounted my monitor a little too high when i did it, redrilling everything, covering all the old holes (there were quite a few) and then putting the monitor back on wasn't worth it at all for those few cm's

if it's a huge difference though, then go for it. it's just a hassle, but since you know how now, it shouldn't be too bad

maybe he trolled you and just try to inspires and motivates you to do things on your own
