Thieves make off with $94,000 BMW 7-Series from Detroit Auto Show

Two thieves in Detroit made off with a good score; a 2011 BMW 750xi Sedan worth about $94,000. The car was left idling outside the Westin Book Cadillac, one of the major hotels in Detroit.

The car was part of a fleet sent to Detroit by BMW in order to chauffeur guests and executives around the Motor City during the 2011 NAIAS this past week. As of this morning, police were still looking for the vehicle.

The car was delivered by a valet to be loaded onto an automotive transport truck to be taken back to BMW’s North American headquarters in New Jersey. BMW hold no ill will towards the event or its organizers, and says that this was just an unfortunate incident, and the company remains committed to the event for the future.

The thefts must have used the Staples button "That was easy..."

1) It was insured
2) It was used and they would have to sell it as a demo anyway.

Wow, BMW so understanding about the matter. Otherwise fingers would be pointed. Hope they recover car anyways.

doesnt bmw have GPS system built in, so all you have to do is bring a key in the dealership and the GPS will automatically detect where your car is?

Yes, it is possible for them to locate it. Unless the GPS has been disabled somehow.

I dun get why people would ever left their car running while doing something else. They're just begging for their cars to be stolen. What's really so difficult about turning the car off and locking the doors, especially when everything can be done with a mere push of the button?

If it were a smaller company, a dealership perhaps, I can see this being a perfect explanation for why they were unconcerned with the theft.

The stolen BMW is/was owned by BMW however, a company that size isn't overly concerned with a loss of any less than 9 figures; based on the 2010 profit predictions a $94,000 lose represents only 0.0022% of their predicted profits.

I don't see why this is newsworthy. Not bashing the OP, but the reporter who did this story in the first place. He was probably just awed by the sticker price

This kind of shit happens every 5 seconds

In Toronto last week, a barefoot homeless man ran through the snow and jacked an idling snowplow and ran over a cop and killed him, ran a bunch of redlights and rammed into a garbage truck before being shot by ERT.

This is actually worthy of a thread, so I made one.

this is still worth more then 94k in publicity. i mean seriously if you think a car manufacturer would freak about a single vehicle, you're crazy. they give these things out like candy.
