Does Rogers charge you for changing your plan?

I currently have the student plan and I want to switch it to a plan that includes:

- BBM
- 500mb of Internet
- Email
- Caller ID
- Unlimited texting

My question is; does Rogers charge any fees for changing your plan? I've had the data plan before, changed it the student plan and planning to change it for a 3rd time.

Also, which plan would you guys recommend that includes the things I listed above? My current plan is $63 [including taxes], and I'm hoping for something cheaper.

Thanks!

From what I remember before, altering your current voice plan will result in a renewal to your contract.

AccordCouped 01-15-2011 01:01 AM

yeah, you have to renew your contract

rien 01-15-2011 04:00 AM

Nope just have to resign a contract. I also changed my plan 3x in the past year from data>student>data lol.

Fido however told me I had to pay a bs fee of 200$ for breaching the existing contract but waived it after much argument.

only way to find out is either to call them or you can check with www.howardforums.com

So how many more years would I have to be with Rogers if I renewed the contract? Never renewed one before so sorry for the noobness lol

way2quik 01-15-2011 03:30 PM

It's 3 years (unless specified) from the day you change your plan.

jeedee 01-15-2011 03:48 PM

So basically i'll be handcuffing myself to Rogers for another 5 years [if I renew my contract]?

Yikes

TOS'd 01-15-2011 03:51 PM

^ No, its 3 years still.

Say you are 2 years into your contract. If you change your plan and sign up for another 3 year plan, you will be locked in for 3 years starting at that time.

I was always under the impression a contract is only to subsidize your phone, and once signed you can alter plans as you want without having to worry?

You need a retention plan homie

SoulCrusher 01-15-2011 04:54 PM

I have changed my plan with Rogers more than a few times and it does not cost anything nor does it extend your contract in any way. Like another person mentioned, dont waste your time talking to anyone other than retentions

Thanks for the input guys, i'll give retentions a call tomorrow.

So how would it work? Do I call 611 and tell them I'm "planning" to cancel and they'll transfer me to Retentions? After being transferred do I tell them the things I want etc?

I appreciate the help

Try reading up on this thread: http://www.revscene.net/forums/roger...s-t491018.html and you might also want to try Howardforums to get an idea of what kind of offers to expect from Retentions or what to ask for. Up to a point, you could dial retentions directly but now the only way to get there is by getting transferred from a normal agent. Tell the agent something along the lines of you considering cancelling your contract unless you can be given credits for some features. These agents cannot give credits, only retentions can.

Make sure you know precisely what you want when you talk to retentions and if you see the agent being an asshole, call back a day later and speak with someone else.

Here's a 1200 page thread dedicated strictly for Rogers Retention. Start reading a bit on page 1 it will give you guides on calling. After you have got the gist of things fast forward to the recent pages to get an idea of what plans people are getting now. Good luck.
