Since we are on the topic of tires, anybody have any personal experience with the Continental Sport Contact 2?

The ///M and Pelican guys seem to love it however, no personal experience with those tires myself.

About to buy some new tires to stretch a 205/40 on a 8.5 rim. Falken 512s or 912s? I'm leaning towards 912s since theyre quieter and more up to date. but i hear the 512s stretch better... Looking for low noise, stretchability and reliability.

daval 01-23-2011 07:07 PM

Recommend any 235/40/18 summer tires only, anything good?

You should be fine with Falken 912s on a 205 on a 8.5. The 912s should do fine with what you're working with.

I couldn't get rid of my 912's fast enough. If someone thinks they are quiet they need to drive on some continentals or michelins. I had hankook optimos on my car before the 912s and noticed the significantly noisier tire right away. I'm in the market now for new wheels + tires. What is the general consensus on the continental DWS? Good enough to leave on year round? Otherwise I will just go for the hankook k110, seems like all the professional reviewers love it, and all say they have great wet performance which should be great to have in vancity.

EDIT: IIRC the 912's were also a pretty heavy tire, but don't quote me on that

General consensus with the BMW crowd is that they are a good bang for their buck for an all-year tire.

I ran 512s a long time ago and currently 912s. 512s suck. The 912s are alright for their price range but better to keep your options open to other brands/makes. Can't say much about noise because my motor and exhaust are loud enough as it is.

PZero Rosso on special... ought to be quite good. In 225 the System Assimetrico is on special.

I wouldn't recommend the Pzero Rosso's they tend to have horrible tread wear but they stick to pavement like glue. I have 275 in the front and 355's in the rear and I dread putting kms on them.

CharlieH 01-24-2011 02:23 AM

continental extreme dw is the shit. (not to be confused with the "DWS" which is an all season tire. a damn good one at that as well.)

not good enough for the price. the continental extreme contact DW summers are much better, and cheaper too.

smk 01-24-2011 04:04 AM

any reviews on yokohama s-drive?

CharlieH 01-24-2011 05:23 AM

my friend has them on his m3, and says they're comparable to falken 452s but more expensive. not worth it apparently.

werd

daval 01-24-2011 04:28 PM

For the 235/40/18 i am thinking, here are the followings:

Conti extreme contact dw
Toyo T1R
Hankook ventus V12 evo K110 (best bang of the buck?)
Sumi HTR Z III

What do you guys think?

Mugen EvOlutioN 01-24-2011 04:39 PM

DW nothing else

trust me

T1R costs more

Hankook is okay, wears out faster

Sumi is.....sumi enough said

CharlieH 01-24-2011 04:51 PM

yeah the dw is by far the best tire in that category. you won't be disappointed.

bcrdukes 01-24-2011 06:16 PM

I believe word on the street is that the T1Rs are no longer as good as the previous generation. Something about a different compound or something.

CharlieH 01-24-2011 06:24 PM

i always thought t1rs were kinda shitty for their price =/

qft on treadwear, was running 245/275

but u get the red P-zero stickers on the tire sidewalls which adds +100 hp

CharlieH 01-24-2011 06:36 PM

pirelli is such a recognized name brand that a lot of people think it's the best simply because it's expensive and used by manufacturers such as ferrari. put 355s in the back of any car and i guarantee they'll stick like glue lol. for a similar price, michelin ps2s will rape any pirelli summer tire in any weather condition, and probably last twice as long while doing it.

Mugen EvOlutioN 01-24-2011 08:01 PM

yes

but if you look on tirerack's review

DW > ps2

simply because the treadwear lasts longer

and have you seen the price of ps2??

it costs an arm and a leg

1/3 more than DW

CharlieH 01-24-2011 08:08 PM

ive never driven on ps2s but from what i've heard they're supposed to give better steering feel and more grip in the wet. but considering the prices, the DW is probably the best bet.
