Dead dog found in block of ice

MATT KIELTYKA
METRO
Published: January 26, 2011 11:30 a.m.

Animal cruelty investigators in Dawson Creek were left reeling after a local resident found a dog frozen in a block of ice on his lawn.

According to the B.C. SPCA, the homeowner who made the gruesome discovery Jan. 15 did not know the dog or who could have left the corpse on his property.

"It’s a bizarre and very upsetting case," said SPCA investigator Marcie Moriarty. "Inside the block of ice, which looks to have been made from a larger rubber bin, was the frozen corpse of a medium-size black dog."

Efforts are being made to determine the dog’s cause of death and to find its owner.

Anyone with information is asked tp call the South Peace SPCA branch at 250-782-2444.

That is FUCKED UP

yeah, majority of people here seem to think it's some sorta animal cruelty, but i also highly doubt that. Probably a stray dog or a dog that ran away, which then died from poisoning or hunger or the cold and then was frozen solid. I guess not really cruel owners, but if it did run away/was given away, still shitty ones

Even if it was dead before frozen, animals don't deserve this sort of cruelty. Gonna hug my dog now....

If it was dead it was dead. I suppose we shouldn't bury them, either?

What's really disturbing is that this appears to have been left on a random persons lawn.

Burying in the ground is one thing, but to freeze it into a block of ice and left on someone's lawn?

I hope this dog was dead beforehand... But i doubt it.

Just seems like someones going out of their way to play a sick joke.

If it were up to me, I would lock up these people away from society. What happens when they want a bigger thrill? A little girl?

if it was dead i'm sure you could have stood it up in that position due to rigamortis [sp]

i'm not even sure how you would go about freezing the dog alive in that position unless you froze half of it at a time. the dog would've drowned before the water could've come close to solidifying and i'm no expert, but i guess it's possible that the dog could've been floating after it died.
