VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - BC Place Stadium will be getting a new name, but that won't happen for at least a few months.
General Manager Howard Crosley says they're closing in on a corporate naming deal that should bring in about two million dollars a year.
He wouldn't reveal which company or companies were bidding on naming rights.
Crosley also couldn't be pinned down on the exact date the stadium will re-open under its new, retractable roof. "Our general contractor won't make a commitment at this point. They told us that this is as good as they can do at this point."
He says it should be ready by early fall so that the BC Lions and Whitecaps can start calling it their home as soon as possible.
Crosley was speaking at a news conference where Budweiser was announced as the official beer of the two teams. No word yet on whether that announcement will have an impact on beer prices.
I really hope they at least go with something decent but I'm sure everyone will be pissed off with the new name.
Budweiser should put up the money and we can call it BC Bud Place
have only seen it used with bud products, so i'm asuming it's there thing, not sure if it's common place in stadiums or not though
^^ I remember watching CTV few nights ago, talking about that machine that would fillup beer. Took the inventors 3 years to perfect the machine and finally some corporation purchased their product.
mmmmm...beer! hahahah...
With so many name changes, its gonna be hard to keep up, I'm gonna call it BC Place to be easier.
I had some girl come into the busser station the other day trying to make out with every staff member and then pull down her pants and asked for someone to stick a dick in her (at least she shaved).

agreed that Science World will always be known as Science World and BC Place should always be BC Place.
GM Place is different tho. that was a corporate name. GM Place/Rogers Arena never had its own name without a corporate sponsorship. its not like its now Rogers GM Place. It will eventually be known as Rogers Arena (such a shitty name), it will just take time for it to sink in.
the Arena in Kelowna was originally Skyreach Place until Skyreach went under and it changed to Prospera Place. it took 2 or 3 years but eventually Prospera stuck in everyones minds.
lol did anyone else read the article about this issue? has it been resolve.. i read that when the dome is open and it starts to rain, water would collect in the gap while it closes and it would screw up the dome...
They just cant open or close it in heavy rains. It cant be in motion with the heavy rains since the fabric folds as it closes, the folds catch water while they are exposed before they are stretched open or tucked away closed. Its kind of stupid they didnt plan it ahead with a half billion dollar roof but its not as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be its not like the roof will collapse in the rain if its open or closed. I wouldnt be surprized of other retractable roofs have weather limitations aswell.
The roof only takes 20 minutes to open or close, unlike the hour it takes many other retractable roofs. They can open or close it if there is weather rolling in. Its not like they will get caught offguard every day.
If its open and a freak rainstorm rolls thru, the players on the field get to play in the rain like any open stadium, except the fans in the seats will be protected at all times.
Its not like they will get caught offguard every day.
this is vancouver, weather reports are usually accurate here... Sunny 1minute, Raining the next... and since it rains a lot here, they should have been smarter...
have only seen it used with bud products, so i'm asuming it's there thing, not sure if it's common place in stadiums or not though
In today's 24 Hours paper, there was an article about Labatt's agreement with BC Place that said "draught beer may be dispensed using bottom-up technology"...
So keep your fingers crossed!
