Ran the Fall Classic half-marathon for the first time yesterday. My training plan was half-assed and I still finished in a respectable 1:47 and change. I basically did 2 runs a week - a tempo and a distance run. On a steady stream of Advil right now and I will be using a foam roller for the next couple of days. It's time for a new pair of shoes. I ran the race with a pair of Brooks Ghost 3s and the Ghost 4 is available on Amazon for $65. Awfully tempting... Posted via RS Mobile |
^Congrats, that's a great time on 2x week training! Also check runningwarehouse.com for great deals on shoes, liquidation shoes are another 15% with coupon code FB15D. I have purchased lots of gear (and have some more on the way right now!) and their customer service is always fantastic. My kid has been waking up just after 5 am and I decided to have a nap on the floor this morning, on my ride side....and wouldn't you kow it, my right hip was really tight on the run to work. Sleep in, kiddo, sleep in! |
hey guys, any suggestions for jackets for running? i will be using it all year round |
^^ Get your ass to the Nike Outlet in Burlington or Tulalip! The same running jacket i was about to buy was 50 bucks from $110 over here. |

If you want to shop locally, MEC has a great jacket in the TACE I bought one on sale last year and was skeptical since the jacket is so lightweight, but it does a great job blocking wind and retaining heat without making you soggy. I wore it in windy -20 last winter (with a long sleeve wicking shirt + fleece half-zip underneath) and was surprisingly comfortable. The jacket also survives well being crushed with little wrinkling. Keep in mind that it is not a rain jacket, although it will keep you dry in light drizzle. |

Here's a few others that are reviewed: Running Jackets | Run The Line.com I was also previously running in a MEC jacket which was fine. MEC is good since you can return/exchange it if you're ever not satisfied. |
thanks guys, any recommendations on something in between my dri fit shirts and jackets that doesn't soak much sweat up? i think fleece might be over kill in this weather. |

New Balance Long Sleeve Half Zip |
^ i sort of want to get something like that + this Nike LIVESTRONG Vapor Jacket Mens - SportChek.ca or this Nike LIVESTRONG Windrunner Jacket Mens - SportChek.ca and just wear a t shirt underneath, problem is i really dont' know how it'd feel in this weather without trying it. |
IMO, go for something fairly lightweight. Having a heavy jacket that bounces makes for a less enjoyable run. Raybot- how is the sleeve length on that NB 1/2 zip? I'm long and lean (my wife would say skinny) and find jackets that fit me in the chest usually have sleeves that are too short. |

The second one is pretty heavy. Its good that its warm and all, but then when you sweat, it feels gross and and sauna-ish when you're running. Not to mention, it will feel heavier with the sweat. The first jacket with a good dri-fit would suffice for most weather conditions. |

light as air jacket | lululemon athletica I've bought gear from various companies over the years - Nike, New Balance, and Lululemon - and I would say that Lululemon offers the best balance in terms of fit, fabrics, construction, and aesthetics. If you're going to buy other brands, head to Winners. You'll save like 50% off the retail prices. Never pay full retail for New Balance, Nike, etc. |
39:10 10k today, not bad for the first race of the season. A lack of speed work over the winter made 4 min kms way harder than they were a few months ago ;) |
Just started to running...my ankles and knees have never hurt so much! Any tips for someone just trying to get a great 1.5 mile time?? Haha Posted via RS Mobile |

bump. anyone running much this summer? |
^ very little, too hot out, although I did participate in the Pt. Grey Triathlon this past weekend, and have a 10km race this upcoming weekend. To be honest, running has taken a back seat to cycling and swimming during the summer, but I've got to get running again soon. Got a few more races to complete this year. And I might be leading the half-marathon clinic group in the fall at the BBY Running Room, so come on out and join me for a run! |
im actually part of the richmond 10k clinic, but i find it a bit too relaxed so im not enjoying it that much. if i could get to bby reliably by 630 then i would join your half clinic. |
bumping an old thread. Any beginning tips for jogging? My leg/back was injury a few years ago so I didn't do much exercise. Now my back is better I started jogging to get back into shape. It seems I am always out of breath way too soon. My legs doesn't feel tired but I can feel my throat and lungs hurting so I have to stop and rest. I don't think I am going too fast since my legs aren't tired at all. |
throat and lung pain will go away with tolerance. If you're injury prone....the only advice that you need is get a good pair of running shoes. |
