Langara Korean Exchange

http://www.langara.bc.ca/external-studies/korea.html

Anyone have any experience with this exchange program?

I'm under the impression you just go there, chill, speak English with the Koreans, get paid, and experience some of the culture?

Not sure, but they pay like half of your airfare and you get an allowance weekly. (either from the program or from tutoring english)

Dont think theres a japan exchange program in langara. Those are like 3 weeks field trip thing.

I'm going to ask the person heading this program, but do you know of any requirements? Like my grades aren't so-so, so I'm very worried about that.

yea. you need a mediocre GPA. above 2.0, must spend at least a year in school prior to applying.Though it didnt specifically mention has to be in langara.

ask the person in the international students department.

As said in your PM, I did this back in spring 2007. There was only one other person who did this before me and for my semester, two of us from Langara went. From what I can remember, you pay tuition to Langara and then they provide you with free dormitory, $400 for airfare, and $150(usd) exchanged into KRW a week. You have to attend some tutorial services where you meet the students at Soonchunhyang and just converse with them in English and help build up their confidence.

Most of the times were spent drinking soju at the local bars and having fun. The uni is not a good uni, but it has a good atmosphere and environment. Much better than Langara and SFU (can't say for UBC since I never went there). It is roughly 1.5 hours south of Seoul, so a bit far. If you go to Seoul, you would want to go for the weekend and stay overnight.

The courses are easy (and like all exchanges, the grade does not matter, it's only pass or fail to be transfered back) which reflect upon the school not being that challenging. If you are going there to have fun, get paid, chill, is a good place. If you are going there to learn academically, it is not a good place.

Your course will include Korean writing and also a course in Korean conversation, the rest you can pick.

I went on an exchange to Korea and also to HK (HK through SFU) and the one in Korea was much better. Maybe due to the friends I had met at the dorm and my roommate, but better overall experience. Also because like I said, SCH in Korea wasn't hard so it was more fun and play, while HK was more academic.

camrysport, text me. we'll have our meet. I'm very interested in this LOL. Been taking Korean outside of school. And from friends, they say exchange to Korea is extremely fun and a good experience. I've been there for holiday once and I'm completely in love with the place.

Aight lets do it.

I think they take a class size or so there or most likely so like 20, 30ish?

So who's down? I think we definitely probably have more than enough since there's going to be people outside of us that are in.

On the SCH University site, it says in additional to the application form, you'll also be required to have international medical insurance, two letters of recommendation, an academic transcript with a minimum GPA of 3.0 - 4.0 and a statement of purpose.
