Cat Converter

Hey everyone, I was wondering if people could help me out, I know very little about cars.I have a 2003 Mazda protege 5, and well i have been having problems with my cel light after i got aftermarket headers.

The mechanic, was a friend of a friend, and he said he would weld in the o2 bung on ractive headers, but he just drilled a hole, and i tried the non fouler trick, didnt work, so i returned it to stock after that cel never went off, my family mechanic tried a new o2 sensor, and he tested the readings before and after my cat, and they are both the same, so he said my cat might need to be changed I was wondering if this would do the trick to replace the stock one.

Thanks for the help guys...

couldn't you jut use the stock or oem cat? i mean if you want the performance this might not be the worst idea, but i prefer to my have cats removable from the rest of the exhaust, i guess it depends how your exhaust is routed.

Well the after market kit has a working cat and an o2 bung, so as far as I can tell it should be a fully functioning alternative to OEM.

HOWEVER, that does not mean the CEL will just 'go away' - it may need to be reset, either with buttons on the dash or with a separate computer.

my parents 03 protege 5 had cat failure and we had to replace. Cat is super expensive from dealers so you just gotta find aftermarket ones on ebay. My mechanic said you can't find them in junkyard as well because they get recycled.

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to clear the computer's cache/RAM, reconnect and see if it's still there.

Just throwing it out there - for my TL when I installed the CAI the engine light came and stayed on until I disconnect + reconnected the battery
